HOLIDAY HOME
TOA MOANA BEACH VILLA
Our Resort Report
OUR Thoughts on Toa Moana Beach Villa, Vaimaanga, South Coast, Rarotonga
Another lovely stand-alone holiday home on Rarotonga’s south coast in the up-and-coming Vaimaanga district. Although we do say the area around Vaimaanga is up-and-coming, there have been Cook Island people living quietly here for generations enjoying the beautiful beaches, the lagoon and the inland gardens and park-like surroundings in the vicinity, especially around the Wigmore’s Waterfall estate. As Rarotonga’s economy has blossomed over recent years, many Rarotonga locals have built beach houses along this coast and we are pleased to be able to offer a selection of these for Kiwis to enjoy for laid-back beach holidays in Rarotonga.
Toa Moana Beach Villa is one of the really well established holidays homes on this coast. Recently totally refurbished and updated to a good, modern standard while retaining its beach vibe and tropical ambience. It has some interesting features, one of which being that it is a two-level building but with all the living being confined to the second level (the ground floor is undeveloped and closed in apart from the access to the internal stairway), as it’s from there that the lagoon and ocean views are at their best. The house is so close to the beach, that from the deck off the lounge and from inside the lounge, you can almost imagine you are staying in an overwater bungalow! The lounge arrangement is quite unique too in that there is what we call an “internal veranda” combined with the more formal part of the lounge. The 2 bedrooms and the kitchen all flow off the formal part of the lounge. The informal internal veranda also flows off the lounge and meets the external deck at floor-to-ceiling bifold doors and a bank of louvred windows. The doors fold back to provide a pleasing flow-through on to the sizeable uncovered deck running around 2 sides of the building. A second set of (lightweight) lounge furniture graces the internal veranda and this is designed to be easily moved out on to the deck to enable guests to enjoy the cooler times of day and the views when the mood (and the sunset) takes you.
Sharing he ocean views, the master bedroom opens off the front of the lounge and the second bedroom is joined to the lounge by wide-opening double sliding wooden doors, which, when open, enhance the feeling of space in the open-plan living room. There is one pleasant bathroom.
A veranda off the ground floor leads almost immediately to the beach down approximately 8 steps, and what a beach it is too.
Although Toa Moana is a stand-alone holiday home and not part of a resort, housekeeping and other services are still available. This home is part of the Aramoana Property Management Group so housekeeping is provided every 3 days and staff living close by can respond quickly to any requests for local assistance/knowledge, extra sheets etc. The house is fully set up with linen and a breakfast starter pack when you arrive.
As is the case with all south-coast holiday homes, it is probably a good idea to have a rental car for at least a portion of your stay for ease of access to all the features of Rarotonga, but it is by no means compulsory. If you enjoy walking, there are several food outlets in the form of Wigmore’s Supermarket, a beaut café and a couple of restaurants well within walking distance. Wigmore’s Waterfall is another pleasant walk from Aramoana and the natural gardens surrounding the waterfall walk are lovely. It is also possible to do a cross-island trek from this area, but you’ll need a guide as the climb can be quite arduous in places and the crossing takes three to four hours.

General note re a holiday home stay.
Holiday homes are a very welcome option for a stay-put holiday on Rarotonga. Obviously, individual holiday homes offer widely differing standards and specifications as to what is included and the services which are available to guests taking this accommodation option. As a general rule, a holiday home is a private citizen’s private residence or holiday place and, unlike a stay at a resort, a manager or owner may not be available on-site. In the case of Toa Moana, the holiday home is managed by the Aramoana Properties Group and assistance for maintenance matters etc is available during business hours. Of course, it is always sensible to maintain a reasonable level of personal security and to keep up an insect repellent program no matter where you stay in Rarotonga. Through understanding what this accommodation style entails, a really enjoyable holiday can be had in a holiday home in Rarotonga.
Getting to and from and around Toa Moana Beach Villa
Arrival and departure airport transfers will be included in your holiday package arrangements at required/agreed. Depending on the arrival time of your flight into Rarotonga, transfer options may include a seat-in-vehicle transfer, a private car transfer or, especially for those who have previously visited Rarotonga, the option of picking up a rental car at the airport.
Once you are settled in at Toa Moana, you will quickly come to grips with the circle island buses which pass by every hour heading both clock-wise and anti-clock-wise to and from Avarua, Arorangi and Muri. Being located approximately half-way around the island means it doesn’t really matter which bus you take to get to and from Avarua town. When heading for Muri, the best bus to take is the anti-clockwise service around the island. On your way beck, it’s best to catch the clockwise bus service.
For those who enjoy a walk, there are cafés, takeaways, restaurants and a supermarket – all within a 15-minute walk. Motor-scooters, rental cars and now electric bicycles are available to hire via Our Travel Specialists. Toa Moana is in an ideal spot for the use of battery-powered bicycles and we can pre-book these for you. With pedal assistance, e-bicycles will go twice around the island on a single charge and batteries may be recharged using a standard power plug. The rental of all vehicle types may be pre-arranged prior to your arrival in Rarotonga and included in your holiday package arrangements
