NAVUTU STARS FIJI
YASAWA ISLANDS RESORT
Yaqeta Island, Yasawa Islands, Fiji

Our thoughts on Navutu Stars Resort
What a find! Somehow, you just don’t expect to come across a place like Navutu Stars out in the far reaches of Fiji’s Yasawa Islands - or do you? What you find here is a beautiful, high-quality boutique resort in a perfect island beach setting and while there are certainly other wonderful resorts out in the Yasawa Islands, Navutu Stars is one of a very select few that provide an exceptional standard of accommodation, services and food while keeping faithful to their desire to maintain as small an ecological footprint as possible - and it works perfectly!

The resort is built around a small point on the north of Yaqeta Island on three sandy bays. The bays face west, north and east and there are small islets close in, while the rest of the Yasawa Islands stretch before you in the middle distance. There is a quite a variation in the tides out here in the Yasawa Islands so there is a constant change of beach scenery as the tides come and go and the snorkelling is always interesting. Sunrise and sunset times are magical and the night sky fairly blazes with stars. Navutu is a relaxing and romantic spot – our advice for holidays here is not to scrimp on your time, we reckon 5 nights is a dead minimum to really relax and unwind in this remarkable boutique resort.

For such a small, remote resort the food is exceptional and very fairly priced too. Full gourmet continental breakfast is included in the room price and comprises muffins and pancakes as well as fresh fruit platters, toast, jam, cereals, tea/coffee and fruit juices. Breakfast is served on the deck in front of the restaurant or in your bure. An a la carte cooked menu is available at a reasonable additional cost.

The a la carte lunch options are exactly right for your relaxing Fiji break – a perfect mixture of light tropical-style meals, a perfectly balanced menu featuring Italian, Pacific Rim and Asian styles. A private picnic lunch will happily be organised on a secluded beach on a neighbour island. Dinners are a highlight at Navutu Stars. There is an ever-changing daily menu and dinners can be enjoyed in the relaxed open-air restaurant, privately at a table specially set up on the beach, on your own deck or on the raised Sunset Terrace with its stunning views. In true Navutu Stars style, there is no additional charge for room service.

Lunch and dinner is not included in the tariff although meal plans are available. However, the style of food and prices cover a wide range of options, so being free to decide each day is not a bad idea.

There is plenty to do if you want to be active. Scuba diving is readily available, kayaks are provided for guest to use, there is a daily changing snorkelling trip, exceptional fishing, the view from the hill immediately behind the resort is well worth the climb, village visits, beach volleyball, enjoy the hiking trails, visit the famous Sawa-i-lau caves where even a novice swimmer can be assisted through the underwater passage into these spectacular fresh-water underwater caves, join in the kava ceremony every Friday afternoon.

Swimming with Manta Rays is another optional activity at Navutu Stars.  From May to October, these majestic creatures glide through the channel between Nanuya Balavu and Drawaqa Islands. They pass through nearly every day from May to October to feed as the tide changes.
Quoting the resort:
“Of course, they are wild, so we can't guarantee you'll see them but if you do, no photograph will prepare you for that first sighting of them in the water beneath you. The mantas don't mind swimmers so there's a good chance your encounter will be a lengthy one as they turn and glide in the waters beneath you, huge mouths open as they feed on the plankton.”

Honeymoons and weddings are a feature at Navutu Stars; but you don’t have to be on a honeymoon to luxuriate in the magnificent Day Spa with its myriad of treatments and massage options.  To help get you into relaxation-mode on arrival Navutu Stars includes the option a complimentary 30-minute massage for every guest staying 4 nights or longer.

Another feature of Navutu Stars is their Yoga Classes.  To quote Navutu Stars by their in-house Yoga expert Torika Tabua:-
“In a unique blend of Astanagar and Iyengar teachings at Yasawa’s Navutu Stars Fiji. Torika began her career as a deeply intuitive massage therapist, her healing touch perfectly complemented by completion of yoga training in San Francisco, where she became certified as an Astangar Teacher. She went on to lead the yoga program at the Jaques Cousteau Resort in Fiji for close to ten years.

Torika’s Yoga classes at Navutu Stars give new energy and tone to city-stressed bodies and souls. Gentle daily classes in groups or privately, will be taught on the stunning Sunset Terrace, where the view stretches over sparkling seas to the furthest points of the volcanic Yasawa Islands. Torika confesses that "Yoga changed the way I look at things, I have learned to focus on the positive rather than negative”. With her big smile and generous nature, Torika brings the warmth of the Fiji Islands to her classes. For groups of 6 or more, tailored Yoga retreats can be arranged.

In the latter part of 2017, the Bures were refurbished, involving a general refreshing of the rooms and a full upgrade of the bathrooms. Additional water-sport facilities include Stand-Up Paddle Boards and light-weight double kayaks were added at that time.

Finally, the cocktails. Oh yes, the cocktails at Navutu Stars are truly memorable.

Your Accommodation Options
Every one of the 10 bures at Navutu Stars is really magnificent.  Ranging in size between 60 and 80 square metres in size, each one with 8-metre-high traditionally-built thatched roofs with hand-crafted beams and ceilings – a style normally reserved for Fiji’s High Chiefs.  Each one is truly a natural artwork.  Walls and floors are whitewashed and this colour scheme contrasts exceptionally well with the natural wood ceilings and beams and the wooden shutters etc. The soft furnishings are in Asian-inspired colours – it all comes together exceptionally well.

All Bures are cooled by ceiling fans and through-breezes.  There really is no need for air-conditioning as the very high cathedral-style thatched ceilings take out most of the heat and the natural sea breezes do the rest. Ever Bure has a big bathroom with double vanity basins and a shower and while the bures are all open-plan there are distinct sleeping and living areas as well as outdoor lounging furniture and a double hammock. Two bottles of bottled water are placed in your bure each day.

Navutu Stars has a minimum 3 nights stay policy year-round

To keep the resort always up to scratch, Navutu Stars does not accept booking for February each year, as during this period the resort undergoes annual maintenance.

Room Categories
(In ascending order of tariff)
Bullet The Garden Bure:
There is one Garden Bure located in a nice secluded spot between the 2 Grand Bures. The Garden Bure would be no further than 30 metres from the beach and occupants have a filtered beach view. While it is the least-cost option for accommodation, it is in quite high demand due to its secluded location. There are 2 sofas and a coffee table in the lounge area and the whole front of the Bure opens up when the bi-fold doors are drawn back.
Maximum Occupancy: 2 guests.
Existing bedding:  1 King Bed.
Additional bedding:  No additional bedding accommodated.

Bullet Beachfront Bures:
There are six of these 70m2 beauties, each one almost right on the beach sand. Both the sleeping area and the living area have separately opening bi-fold doors out to the beach and terrace. A shady coconut frond thatched veranda is out front and, where space permits, houses a double daybed to compliment the double hammock slung between the palm trees nearby. The lounge area contains 2 sofas and a large coffee table.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 guests
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed.
Additional Bedding:  1 single Rollaway Bed can be added.

Bullet Grand Bures:
Apart from the restaurant, bar and reception bure, the stand-out building as you arrive at Navutu Stars is Grand Bure number 1, which is raised above the east-facing beach affording occupants a splendid view out over the Yasawa Islands. This Bure has an 80m2 deck. The other Grand Bure (number 3) is located on the beach and is surrounded by 180m2 of private tropical garden. Both Grand Bures are 80m2 in area and have a similar layout to the Beach Front Bures.  Apart from the slightly bigger size, their major feature is an oversize soaking tub built into the lounge area floor from which you can enjoy the view while soaking in a specially prepared bath with scented oils dried flower petals and floating candles. One Grand Bure has the living area and the soaking tub raised up 3 steps from the sleeping area, the other Grand Bure is all on the one level.
Maximum Occupancy: 2 guests.
Existing bedding is 1 King Bed.
Additional Bedding:  No additional bedding accommodated.
