Our Thoughts on The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa
The Rarotongan Beach Resort was the first major resort built in the Cook Islands, so this Resort had the pick of all the beachfront land on the island available at the time and what a great location they chose. The location is a small point of beach on Aroa Beach which is the point where the western side of the island turns towards the southern side.  This means that guests staying at “The Rarotongan” as it is referred to locally, can enjoy the spectacular sunsets over the lagoon as well as the lagoon reserve that includes a major section of Rarotonga’s southern coast.  The beach sand is shining white and the lagoon is wide at this location and really does teem with fish.  When staying at The Rarotongan, save a little bread from breakfast and take it to the lagoon to feed the fish.  You can almost guarantee that as soon as you start dropping the bread scraps you will be surrounded by little fish all hunting for a morsel. During the Whale Migration Season it is not uncommon for guests to see whales close-up as they pass outside the lagoon.

The Resort’s restaurants, bars, swimming pool, reception, kids’ club, boutiques, nightclub, etc are all found on the point where the coastline turns and the deck that follows the point around is a favourite spot to enjoy the lagoon, the reef and the ocean; it’s also one of the many great locations at the resort for a wonderful island wedding.

The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa self-rates as a 4 Star resort.  The great location and the huge range of services offered certainly enhance their rating.  Almost every night there is a different theme night and every dinner is accompanied by live music.  There is a big range of complimentary activities which include Daily tropical breakfast, invitation to the Manager’s Sunset Cocktail Party, free use of snorkelling gear, kayaks, tennis, air-conditioned gym, fitness trail, sun loungers, hammocks, beach towels, free daily activities programme including snorkelling and snorkelling lessons, fish feeding, kayaking, beach volleyball, beach soccer, beach petanque, beach touch rugby, tennis, lessons on island dancing, pareu (sarong) tying, island cooking, palm-frond weaving, flower garland (lei) making, coconut climbing and husking show, Games Room, table tennis, giant chess, board games, guest library etc.

Your Accommodation Options
The 109 guest rooms at The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa are complimented by the 48 rooms at Sanctuary Rarotonga, an adults-only Resort which is located right beside The Rarotongan and faces side-on to the same lagoon.  Sanctuary Rarotonga has it’s own restaurant, pool, swim-up bar etc and guests at Sanctuary Rarotonga have free use if all the facilities and can charge-back services used at The Rarotongan.  Indeed, if you choose the Beachfront Suite category at The Rarotongan, you will be automatically upgraded to Sanctuary Rarotonga.

These two sister resorts being side-by-side, means between both of them, pretty well all holiday needs are catered for.  Couples seeking an adults-only pool, restaurants etc can stay at Sanctuary Rarotonga and enjoy the lively atmosphere of The Rarotongan anytime they want.  Families staying at The Rarotongan do so in the knowledge that there are no ‘no-go’ areas where children are not welcome at their resort. It all works very well and certainly enhances everyone’s holiday experience of Rarotonga.

The layout design of The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa is very well organised.  The main function room is Te Vaka Restaurant and this is located furthest away from the accommodation blocks on the point adjoining the “Lagoon Verandah” and overlooking the lagoon with Captain Andy’s Beach Bar and Grill beside.

All accommodation is air-conditioned. The first accommodation block after the restaurants and pool are 2 single-storey groups of staggered Suites, each of which is accessed by a common covered walkway from the garden path.  At the beach end of the two covered walkways are a total of 4 Grand Beachfront Suites, the rooms leading up to the Grand Beachfront Suites on either side of the covered walkways are the Deluxe Beachfront and the Deluxe Beachside Suites. The glorious Honeymoon Bungalow is located in a garden setting between the two groups of suites.

Further along the beach frontage there are two 2-storey blocks of Beachfront Rooms.  These blocks are furthest away from the restaurants etc, but are almost right on the beach. In the garden areas behind the Suites and the Beachfront Rooms there are three 2-storey blocks of Garden Rooms. One block is side-on to the lagoon facing a green area of lawn while the other two face the lagoon over the suites and have a leafy tropical outlook of flowering shrubs and coconut palms.

Ground floor rooms are 30 square metres in size including the deck.  First floor rooms are approx 28 square metres including balcony. Interconnecting rooms can be arranged. First floor rooms have vaulted ceilings.

 Deluxe Beachside Suites
At approximately 50 square metres in size including deck, the open-plan bungalow-style Deluxe Beachside Suites are only steps away from the beach but don’t have direct views of the lagoon.  A lovely feature of these suites is their private tropical outdoor shower. There is also a bathtub in the internal bathroom.

 Beachfront Suites
Located at Sanctuary Rarotonga which was originally part of The Rarotongan but is now an adults-only sister resort located right beside The Rarotongan with all rooms facing the lagoon on the beach frontage.  All Suites are ground floor or first floor, are open-plan and refurbished.  Existing bedding is 1 King double which can be split to make 2 single beds.  Maximum occupancy is 3 adults with the addition of a rollaway bed. All occupants must be aged 16 years or older.

Deluxe Beachfront Suites
At approximately 50 square metres in size including deck, the open-plan bungalow-style Deluxe Beachside Suites are only steps away from the beach and have beach and lagoon views.  A lovely feature of these suites is their private tropical outdoor shower. There is also a spa bath in the internal bathroom.

 Grand Beachfront Suites (Self contained)
Total size including decks is 103 square metres.  There are only 4 of these open-plan suites at The Rarotongan.  Located right on the beach frontage, in the early days of Rarotonga tourism, these were the suites where visiting Prime Ministers & Presidents would stay!  Today, they are ideal for families.  With their full kitchen facilities and roof-top deck they are also ideal for small weddings or corporate breakout rooms.  Their location makes them ideal for honeymoons too.  A lovely feature of these suites is their private tropical outdoor shower. There is also a spa bath in the internal bathroom.

 Honeymoon Bungalow
Nestled in its own completely secluded, lush tropical garden, this is your own personal paradise, complete with your own ‘water features’ including private swimming pool, luminous open-air shower, outdoor ‘starlet’ spa bath on the veranda, and couple’s sauna! Featuring elegant polished tropical wooden floors, rattan-lined walls and chocolate-coloured water-hyacinth furniture, LCD TV, privately-commissioned lighting laced with black pearl shell, and spacious bathroom with rain-tree vanity top and over-sized double basins, the Honeymoon Bungalow offers an incredible sense of freedom with spectacular indoor-outdoor flow through four wide openings onto the veranda. The Honeymoon Bungalow features a unique design with a broad wraparound veranda and a high, thatched roof providing a fabulous sense of space and island romance, and the broad encircling deck means that sun-lovers can follow the sun all day in complete privacy. This wonderfully secluded, one-of-a-kind bungalow provides easy access to the lagoon via a private gateway tracing a sandy path to the beach.

 2 Bedroom Beachside Suites (Self-contained)
Two, 2 Bedrooms/1 bathroom Suites, each approximately 81 square metres in size including deck.  In close proximity to the beach and lagoon, but without direct sea views, they feature a sitting and dining room which opens out onto a spacious veranda. a master bedroom which also opens out onto the veranda, a second bedroom with two single beds, a full kitchen (including microwave, stove top, and refrigerator / freezer), a tiled bathroom with spa bath/shower, and a separate toilet. The sitting room is equipped with LCD TV and DVD, sofa, armchairs, and dining table and chairs that can be used for dining inside or al fresco.  The Two-Bedroom Beachside Suites also feature two separate, individually controlled air conditioning units in the sitting room and hallway.

Getting to and from The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa
We will provide a coach or private car arrival/departure transfer from/to Rarotonga International Airport.

Kids Policy
Up to 2 children aged up to 11 years occupying existing bedding in rooms/suites with parents stay and play free. (Subject to room maximum occupancy rules). Kindly note that the minimum age for accommodation in the Beachfront Suite category is 16 years.

Moko’s Kids Club is a large, colourful, supervised clubhouse packed with toys, paints & crafts, play shop, trampoline, books, board games, computer games, PlayStations, X-Box and videos. It Includes a Kids Discovery Programme of activities themed around the unique nature and culture of Rarotonga. Open year-round to kids up to 11 years inclusive. FREE snacks and drinks at each Moko’s Kid’s Club session.

Teen Zone is a separate club house just for teens with a wide variety of teen activities and games to keep the teens of the family active including the best teen games arcade in the South Pacific with driving, shooting, games of skill and the chance to win a prize! The Teen Zone also includes the old favourites like table tennis, air hockey and pool as well as a teen only Mocktail Bar! Special Teen activities, parties, competitions and events organized making it the “HIP PLACE” for teens to mix and mingle in paradise. Entry to the Teen Zone is free to in-house guests. Some additional charges do apply.

Baby Crèche is a separate, specialist, supervised facility for infants under the age of four with their own “baby gym”, toys, indoor sand pit, games, videos and books as well as separate sleeping and toileting facilities. Activities programmes designed to keep the smallest treasures of the family happy and entertained. Charges apply.

The hotel will make every effort to ensure your rooms are available at your time of check-in; however, the Hotel standard times and rates are as follows:

Cancellation Policy
 All cancellations must be made in writing.
 If cancellations are effected between 30 - 15 days of scheduled arrival, a cancellation fee equal to 50% of total accommodation stay will be levied.
 If cancellations are effected within 14 days of scheduled arrival including no shows, a cancellation fee equal to 100% of total stay will be levied.
