Our Resort Report

Resort Closure for Renovation
On 20 December 2019, Marriott Resorts Fiji advised that Sheraton Fiji Resort is to close on 20 January 2020 for refurbishment.  The Resort is due to reopen in July 2020.

OUR thoughts on the Sheraton Fiji Resort, Denarau Island, Fiji
Some resorts impress from the moment you arrive and the Sheraton Fiji Resort is definitely one of these. If you have previously visited at the SFR (as it's affectionately known by its repeat guests), you will know what we mean and if you have yet to experience this property, be ready for a “WOW! Experience” as you enter the wonderful lobby and catch your first glimpse of this big, open, spectacular space and the view of the pools and the ocean beyond. It seems you are surrounded by places to eat, shop, play, relax and enjoy either in, or adjacent to this area. Enter the Sheraton Fiji Resort lobby and you immediately fall into relaxed, holiday mode. Once you have settled in at Sheraton Fiji Resort you will come back to enjoy the facilities around the lobby time and time again, whether it be it to catch a cup of coffee and a light meal at The Café, do the shops in the shopping arcade or just relax and enjoy the “people watching” as people arrive and depart, move around the huge conference/ballroom facility or move in and out of “Feast” or “Ports O’ Call” Restaurants.

Over recent times, The Sheraton Fiji Resort has added several innovative features. These include a "Quiet Area" where adults can enjoy the adults-only pool and lounging area. Then there is the lovely Vai Restaurant which brings the flavours of Brazil to Fiji and beside Vai, there is a semi-shaded, relaxing lounge section, Chime Bar, where, instead of merely providing comfortable chairs, guests can relax on the very innovative big, thickly-padded, comfortable, built-in daybed couches.  These couches are marvellously comfortable for guests to relax in during the day and from which to sip a cocktail or two in the evenings.

There is always some activity or other happening around the swimming pools too, whether it be jazz pool aerobics or a pool volleyball game in one corner or a kids’ program happening in the shallow pool.  The whole place is alive and enjoyable.

Complimentary wifi is available throughout the complex (including rooms) at a speed of 502kb/pc and high-speed internet 3mb/pc is available at the cost of FJ$15 tax inclusive for 24 hours.

Sheraton Fiji’s superb American Buffet Breakfast in the “Feast” Restaurant is included in the room tariff. However, in a welcome, innovative move, Vai Restaurant on the beachfront overlooking Nadi Bay is now serving adults-only breakfasts 8:00am to 10:00am daily.  Adult guests who have breakfast included in their room tariff, now have the choice of taking breakfast in Feast Restaurant or, for a modest F$10 per person per meal additional charge, enjoying breakfast in the relative peace and quiet of Vai Restaurant overlooking the beach.  See Exclusively for Adults  section below for full details.

Guests of Sheraton Fiji have access to all the restaurants, facilities and services at The Westin, The Sheraton Denarau Villas and at Heineken House at the Denarau Golf Club as well as The Heavenly Spa by Westin complex. Access to the Westin Workout Fitness Centre at The Heavenly Spa is complimentary to Sheraton Fiji Resort guests. Of course, all their fantastic spa treatments are also available at normal cost. Another recent addition is the ability for in-house guests to take a (charged) Day Trip out to Sheraton Resort & Spa Tokoriki Island.  This is a great day out and can be arranged once guests have checked in at Sheraton Fiji.

Sheraton Fiji Resort offers families an impressive range of services, facilities and deals.  Please refer to the “Families and Kids” section below. We must say though, that while families are exceptionally well catered for, we are always impressed with the way Sheraton Fiji Resort manages, seemingly with ease, to deliver a great holiday for couples and honeymooners while attracting so many families.  The whole resort maintains a very impressive balance of facilities and services for families as well as for couples, ensuring that all guests have a great holiday. Don’t overlook the Denarau Marina for additional restaurants, the “Bulaccino” Café and the convenience stores immediately outside the main entrance to the hotel and take a stroll down to the new Denarau ‘Big Bula’ Water Park, Driving Range, 18-Holes Mini Putt, Bungee Trampoline, Batting Cages and outdoor bowling for fun for the whole family.

Sheraton Fiji Resort has a superb Wedding Chapel located right on their Sunset Point which is a wonderful location for a wedding.  Our Specialists have full details of the wedding packages available.

It seems there is always something happening at Sheraton Fiji Resort and at The Westin too.

Note re Denarau Golf Course Availability
The Denarau Golf Course is becoming more and more popular as the venue for various golfing events during the year and this can result in casual golfers having restricted tee times or course closures on some days. To avoid disappointment, we recommend pre-booking of course times.

A Major Refurbishment Program Announced
We are advised that Sheraton Fiji is commencing a major refurbishment and upgrade of the whole property commencing on 20 January 2020. The "New" resort is scheduled to reopen in July 2020 and from the mock-up of the new room decor and facilities and the wonderful plans for all the public areas (including the lobby) we have seen, the renewed Sheraton Fiji will be nothing short of specacular!

Your Accommodation Options
The guest rooms at the Sheraton Fiji Resort are all light, bright and contemporary. The rooms are all in two-level walk-up blocks and vary in size according to their category. Each block is no more than 2 storeys high. The ground floor rooms have a private patio and the first-floor rooms have a spacious balcony and a recent booking enhancement is that we can now request a guaranteed ground floor or first floor room in all categories. For this to be guaranteed the request is made at the time of making the accommodation booking and, of course, is subject to the availability of your requested position at that time. At Sheraton Fiji, you get all the room amenities you would expect in a five star resort including tea and coffee making facilities and a small fridge, with the added bonus of complimentary high-speed internet access around the resort, but best of all is the feeling of light and space in every room.

Another new service is the ability for guests to book a room with either 1 King Bed or a Twin Room with 2 Double Beds.  In the past, the provision of bedding type has been subject to availability on arrival at the resort, but now a price differential has been introduced (rooms with 2 Double Beds are a little more expensive), so we can pre-arrange your bed choice at the time of booking.

Cashless Resort Policy:
The integrated Sheraton/Westin resort complex has a cashless policy whereby all charges from restaurants, bars, spa, gift shops and resort activities may only be charged to the guest room or settled by credit card at time of purchase. The exception to this policy is Heineken House at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club which does not offer a room charge-back facility.

Deposit to Cover Incidentals required at Check-in
All guests are required to pay a deposit of F$150 per adult per night (or F$300 per room per night at hotel discretion) at check-in to cover items charged to their room account and any incidentals incurred during their stay. A credit card pre-authorisation is the preferred method of covering this deposit, but cash is also accepted.

Please note the following advice from Sheraton Fiji Resort regarding the release of the balance of the pre-authorisation after check-out.
“When the guest checks out we release any remaining balance right away but sometimes it can take time for the banks to release the balance. Standard time is 5 to 7 days.  For Visa and MasterCard, we can release right away and it can show within 24hrs back in the guests credit card account.  For other cards, if guests want their money available sooner than the standard processing time of 5 to 7 days, we can communicate with their banks and the banks usually take about 48hr to do this.”
