THE WESTIN DENARAU ISLAND RESORT & SPA
Our Resort Report
OUR thoughts on The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa, Denarau Island, Fiji
The Westin oozes quality from the moment you set foot in its massive lobby. The Westin was the first resort built on Denarau Island some 30 odd years ago, so it has a great location. When opened (as The Regent of Fiji), this resort was the "Grande Dame" of the Fiji tourism plant and she took Fiji’s tourism plant to a new level of sophistication. Many refurbishments and improvements later she still more than holds her own today as a modern Westin Resort. We like the feeling of well-being, the calm tranquillity and the "Fijianess" of the place which you experience from the very moment you arrive at the "Grand Bure" reception area and this feeling continues and grows on you as you move through the resort restaurants, pools, gardens and guest rooms and as you experience the service and genuine friendliness of all the staff. The serene lobby lounge is a perfect place to relax in and from 8:00am each day when the “Westin Bakery” opens, it’s a great spot to get a good coffee and a good range of breads, cakes, croissants and light meals from breakfast through to afternoon tea.
Over recent times the entire Resort has been completely refurbished. All accommodation has been modernised and upgraded while keeping the “Fijian-feeling” this hotel has always offered. We reckon staying at Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa is good for the body and the soul. The soaring Bure-style roof of the Grand Bure and lobby is calming; the two-tiered wet-edge swimming pool complex is a calm and relaxing place to be and the Heavenly Spa by Westin in the tropical gardens surrounding the Resort is the perfect place to unwind. In the evening gravitate to the pools, to your room balcony or patio or to the “The Kitchen Grill” with its contemporary grill menu featuring steaks, local seafood an seafood and tender chicken, “Zing” which is open for dinners and features Chinese and Indian Cuisine or to the Ocean Terrace Restaurant or Meke Lounge and as the sun sets over the beach and the traditional torch-lighting ceremony gets underway marking the beginning of the famous Westin Unwind Ritual you can’t help but feel relaxed and special.
For active people the Westin Workout Gym (located in the Heavenly Spa complex) offers complimentary access for guests to use modern state-of-the-art work-out equipment and facilities. Optional (charged) activities include the 18-hole championship golf course right across the road – The Denarau Golf & Racquets Club also has ten tennis courts and a golf driving range. The resort offers Hobie-cats, stand-up paddle boards, parasailing, kayaks, water-skiing, wake boarding, banana boat rides, jet skiing, snorkelling gear to hire, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing too. For something a little less strenuous, The Westin has several Lawn Bowls Rinks and offers tuition for beginners and don’t overlook the amazing spa treatments available at The Heavenly Spa Complex. There is no shortage of optional active pursuits on tap!
Westin Denarau guests enjoy the buffet breakfast at the Ocean Terrace Restaurant which is included in the room tariff as well as the charge-back facility at all resort outlets of the Sheraton Fiji Resort and The Sheraton Denarau Villas. Complimentary wifi is available throughout the complex at a speed of 502kb/pc and high-speed internet 3mb/pc is available at the cost of FJ$15 tax inclusive for 24 hours.

The exception to this policy is Heineken House at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club which does not offer a room charge-back facility.
Deposit to Cover Incidentals required at Check-in
All guests are required to pay a deposit of F$150 per adult per night (or F$300 per room per night at hotel discretion) at check-in to cover items charged to their room account and any incidentals incurred during their stay. A credit card pre-authorisation is the preferred method of covering this deposit, but cash is also accepted.
Please note the following advice from The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa regarding the release of the balance of the pre-authorisation after check-out.
“When the guest checks out we release any remaining balance right away but sometimes it can take time for the banks to release the balance. Standard time is 5 to 7 days. For Visa and MasterCard, we can release right away and it can show within 24hrs back in the guests credit card account. For other cards, if guests want their money available sooner than the standard processing time of 5 to 7 days, we can communicate with their banks and the banks usually take about 48hr to do this.”
