SA'MOANA RESORT
Salamumu, Upolu, Samoa

Sa'Moana Resort opened on the 13th of March, 1999. It is unique in its privacy, peacefulness and beautiful setting - in a coconut grove at Salamumu Beach, on the south coast of the island of Upolu in Samoa, formerly known as Western Samoa.

Our 4 star resort provides absolute beach front accommodation and caters for up to 32 guests in beautiful beach bungalows with private facilities and a decor in vibrant Polynesian tones to complement the bungalow's timber features. Singles, couples, groups and families are all catered for with accommodation in 2, 3, 4 and 6 bed configurations.

Samoa offers a rich Polynesian culture which is passionately kept alive and evident at every turn. It is perfect for relaxing tropical holidays and romantic honeymoons, catching that big tuna or sailfish, for the golf fanatics or that perfect wave! Our natural saltwater swimming pool abutting the ocean was constructed in a depression in the lava rock formation at the eastern side of the resort and is truly incredibly beautiful, in an amazing setting.

Centrally located with incredible panoramic views over the south shore's spectacular coastline Aiga, with cocktail bar & restaurant, features a large undercover front deck for dining and relaxing. This is the ultimate location at Sa'Moana after a rewarding surf, tour or relaxing day to kick back and enjoy your favourite cocktail or refreshment.

Equipment for activities such as snorkelling, canoeing, sea kayaking, football, volleyball, golf practice nets, and our pool table are provided free of charge to in-house guests. It is important for our guests to realise that we are about 45 minutes from the airport and from the capital, Apia, and amenities such as coffee shops, or shops in general, are mostly in Apia. Samoa is not a shopping mecca like Bali or Thailand, it is a completely different cultural and relaxing experience.

Great holidays don't happen without great food. Our chefs provide some of the best food on the island. Our cuisine is restaurant quality with the finest fresh produce including fresh local fish, local vegetables and imported prime NZ beef & lamb prepared with innovative style.

We have something to offer everyone, from historical tours to hand-feeding turtles to surfing, fishing, swimming, diving and kayaking. Alternatively you can simply relax with a book in a hammock or catch up on that well deserved sleep! Whatever you decide we will do our utmost to make your stay with us a fantastic and memorable one.”

Our Thoughts on Sa’Moana Resort
A very special place on Samoa’s south coast just 40 minutes from Apia. At this point the Main South Coast Road moves inland, so guests heading for Sa’Moana leave the Main South Road and travel via a very scenic route through Salamumu Village to the resort. On arrival you are immediately struck by the natural beauty of this place. At this point on the south coast of Upolu, the coastline is broken by black lava rock outcrops and promontories which accentuate the natural beach environment of the villages and the little resorts dotted along the coast. At Sa’Moana the black rock outcrops which extend from both sides of the property out into the lagoon don’t quite meet, so, over the ages, sand has entered in through the gap creating an oasis of white sand on which the resort has been built amongst the coconut palms. A beautiful horizon-style swimming pool has been modelled from a natural depression in one of the arms of the outcrops above the outer lagoon. The outer reef is not too far distant and the sounds of the ocean breaking on the reef add to the relaxing natural atmosphere that seems to surround this place.

Sa’Moana Resort is built right on the sand. The Restaurant and Bar are in the centre and there are three or four accommodation fales on either side. The main building which houses the restaurant and bar includes a games area with quality pool table, DVD library etc. There is a large veranda out front which is great for lounging. It’s a perfect spot to take in the sunset – cocktail in hand.

The resort owners promote the fact that they have “something for everyone” and we heartily agree with that. How many of us know friends or family where one or two people in the party are looking for a totally relaxing holiday while others in the party are seeking an active holiday and would be bored silly just sitting under a coconut palm? Look no further – Sa’Moana is absolutely ideal for you! Relaxation is guaranteed for those happy with a good book, a hammock, a swing, a DVD, board games, a game of pool, a swim in the pool or the lagoon, trips into Apia for shopping/markets and maybe a snorkel or a gentle paddle in a kayak. There is a nice easy 10 minute walk to Salamumu Village where there is another great beach guests are welcome to use any day except Sunday. On Sunday wander down to the village and enjoy the wonderful experience of a Samoan Church service. The list goes on and on.

The active people? Sea kayaking (novice and experienced), scuba diving, game fishing, sliding down waterfalls, beach volleyball, Frisbee and best of all, world-class surfing. Sa’Moana specialise in professional surf vacations and have facilities to take guests to the best surf in Samoa. Indeed, there is an interesting surf opportunity on occasions right outside the resort.

Sa’Moana is a perfect spot for a wedding and/or a honeymoon. The resort offers an optional meal plan which we recommend as good value. Don’t miss the Fa’a Samoa Cultural Night which is held once a week, usually on a Tuesday.

Your Accommodation Options
Rated 3 Star, the 8 Sa’Moana bungalows front the beach; they are fresh, modern and comfortable. There is no need for air-conditioning as the bungalows are built to maximise the natural cooling from the south-easterly breezes. The front of every bungalow is raised above the sand by around a metre so the air can move under the fale. All windows are screened glass louvers which provide flow-through ventilation and there is a ceiling fan. The ceilings are vaulted.

Every bungalow has a lagoon view, a covered veranda, tea/coffee making facilities, a fridge and an ensuite bathroom. The light-coloured walls are complimented by wood floors and local-woven mats, colour-coordinated bedding and ceilings.
