Off Espiritu Santo Island, Vanuatu.

OUR Thoughts on Bokissa Private Island Resort
The whole Resort has recently had an update to all the general areas and the accommodation units.  However, we are advised that the resort will close from 01 September 2019 for major renovations and expansion, so get in quick for that winter holiday break!

It’s quite difficult to categorise Bokissa Private Island Resort because it is unusual in many ways. The owners and managers have gone out of their way to keep everything very natural and guests find that very attractive for a holiday.  The island itself is a wonderful location for an intimate resort.  Bokissa Island lies between the much bigger islands on the southern side of the main island (Espiritu Santo) with Tutuba Island to the east, Malo Island to the south and Aore Island to the west.  Santo’s capital, Luganville is to the north around half an hour away by boat.  The deep waters between Bokissa and Luganville hide the resting place of the “President Coolidge” and other WW11 wrecks and relics which makes for great scuba diving.

Bokissa’s beaches are lovely white sand beaches which (unlike more densely populated resorts), don’t get raked every day because the only thing that lands on them apart from island guests, is the odd leaf off the trees bordering the beach. You can snorkel at all tides either directly off the beach or from the jetty. It is not at all unusual to see a dugong and perhaps a dugong calf playing in the exceptionally clear water off the resort.  All the individual Fares are only steps away from the beach under the trees and surrounded by lawns, but so located that you feel that you are the only person on the island when in your Fare.  All meals are included in the tariff and these are normally buffet style which gives you the opportunity to join the other guests at the long table set out on the resort deck or dine privately at a table especially set up on the beach or perhaps on the jetty or take breakfast in bed. The island is virtually covered in tropical rainforest and guests enjoy shaded walks in the still forest where often the only thing moving will be the hermit crabs fossicking in the fallen leaves on the forest floor.

This is quiet, relaxing place where the night sky is so clear the stars light up the sky, where lasting friendships are made and where good conversation goes on around the bar late into the night.

So, how to categorise Bokissa? It’s not luxurious in the way, say a Westin or a “W” Hotel is luxurious, but it is luxurious in its own natural environmental way. For those people seeking a good standard of accommodation, meals and services in a totally laid-back little resort where you can turn off from the normal world and rediscover some of the more simple joys of life in a beautiful, natural setting, Bokissa may be the place for you.  We think their by-line sums the place up very well – “A little wild and seriously private.”

What Bokissa Private Island Resort Say About Themselves:
“Bokissa Private Island Resort is an exclusive Vanuatu luxury resort on its own privately owned Island sanctuary of 175 acres of virgin dense rain forest surrounded by clear ocean water and lush coral reefs. It is perfect for your island vacation, island honeymoon or island diving resort.

Unlike many other Pacific Island resorts, Bokissa Private Island Resort does not have Roosters, or any non-native animals to keep you awake at night - just the faint wash of the waves on the beach and rustling of the leaves in the trade winds.

Bokissa Private Island Resort has 24 hour power for fans, air conditioning and food storage and sewage treatment. We have pure desalinated and rain water for drinking and washing food. You won't find these features on other remote island resorts in Vanuatu.

Our facilities are truly private - a remote private island with 25 metre fresh water pool, shaded swim-up pool bar, in-house scuba diving and sports fishing operations, snorkelling , kayaks, spas, health massage centre, rainforest walks, bird watching, substantial library, hammocks, tours, restaurant, bar, convenience store, souvenirs, clothes shop, out-door giant chess, boles, board games, billiard table, Island church, internet facility, double filtered rain water and desalinated throughout and  24 hour electric power.

Bokissa is a favourite spot for world famous underwater photographers and marine scientists because the Bokissa coral reefs are the most accessible, luxuriant and undisturbed shallow water reefs in Vanuatu. The reefs are difficult to equal anywhere in the South Pacific.

Most of the people who come to Bokissa Private Island Resort have been there before or were recommended by friends who have been there.

Bokissa is not quite a secret island, but it is small (just 16 luxury fares), very private, and off the beaten track. So if you wish to join the lucky few who get to enjoy this very special resort, reserve your holiday right now.
