Our Thoughts on Le Tikehau by Pearl Resorts, Motu Tiano, Tikehau Atoll, Tuamotu Islands, French Polynesia
Tikehau is an atoll with a huge number of little islands (motus) ringing a big deep lagoon and its beauty is well known all over the world especially amongst the cruising yacht fraternity and honeymooners seeking peace and solitude.  Le Tikehau by Pearl Resorts is built on one of the little fringing islands which is very special due to the pink sand along its shoreline.
 
Le Tikehau by Pearl Resorts is a perfect choice for a honeymoon, a babymoon or a simple relaxing break at any time.  It is predominantly a couples’ destination but children are always welcome although families mainly stay here during school holiday periods. With only 37 accommodation units including bungalows, suites and 1 villa, this is an intimate place where guests may get to know the staff as well as their fellow guests but there is plenty of space for privacy too.

From the moment you arrive at the Reception Jetty, you are in holiday mode.  The facilities on offer are very good – a pleasant little restaurant and bar beside the resort swimming pool are all tucked away with filtered views to the beach through the palm trees and gardens.  The hammocks slung between the trees on the beach frontage are perfect for relaxing and for those who enjoy spa treatments and massage, the Manea Spa out on the point of the island is a perfect place to enjoy a spa experience.

Other special services and payable options include a picnic on an uninhabited island, breakfast delivered by canoe to Overwater Bungalows and Overwater Suites, private dinner in your own bungalow, exploring Tikehau by bicycle, cooking lessons with the resort’s chef, scuba diving, excursion to Bird Island, lagoon fishing, deep sea fishing etc.  The complimentary activity list includes kayaks, snorkelling gear, petanque, badminton, beach volleyball, table tennis and snooker table.

Tikehau is famous for its scuba diving and many people visit just to experience this activity.  Tuheiava Pass is the centre of dive activity and the marine life is awesome here.  A full range of dive activities is available including night dives and dive certification courses. 

Be active by all means, but our pick is relaxing – wade in the water amongst the tropical fish, watch the sea life through the glass panel of an Overwater Bungalow or Suite, feed the fish scraps from breakfast, laze in a hammock and read a book, take in the spectacular sunsets – relax and recharge.  

Tikehau is not as well-known as say, Bora Bora or Moorea, but please don’t underestimate the benefits of a completely relaxing break in this remarkable place; you won’t be disappointed.

Your Accommodation Options
For a small resort in a spectacularly remote location, the accommodation options are many and varied.  We’ll describe each option in detail to ensure you choose the right one for your perfect holiday. In general, we must say that we think the way The Resort has been laid out both on the land and over the water off-shore of its little island motu is just about perfect.  The first thing that strikes us is the way the 2 groups of Overwater Bungalows/Suites have been placed so that they don’t impinge in a negative way on the view from the Beach Bungalows, the restaurant or the pool area.  The 8 big Overwater Suites are located off the north-eastern edge of the island over the Tikehau Lagoon and the Overwater Bungalows are located off the western side on one of the passes between the ocean and the lagoon in an area rich with coral and marine life. The Beach Bungalows front the pink sand beach. 

All accommodation is built in the authentic Polynesian style with abundant natural wood and a palm-frond thatched roof.  Each Bungalow, Suite and Villa has a high roof and high vaulted ceiling.

 Overwater Bungalows
55m² including decks
The Overwater Bungalows are those bungalows located on the “western pontoon” closest to the shore.  They are not air-conditioned, being located in such a way that they catch plenty of cooling breezes and have ceiling fans for natural cooling.  They don’t offer direct access to the reef and sand below as the water is quite shallow in this location.  Very similar in layout to the Beach Bungalows although, of course, the bathroom does not open to a courtyard, Overwater Bungalows have a glass floor panel under the coffee table enabling guests to view the marine life below. There is also a second deck on the opposite side to the main veranda/sundeck. Bathroom has shower only.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 Adults and 1 Child or 2 Adults and 2 Children aged under 13 years.
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed which can be split into 2 Single Beds and a convertible Day Bed.
Additional Bedding: 1 Single Bed can be added for a 2^nd child when 2 Adults and 2 kids are sharing.

Beach Bungalows:
55m² (including decks) Beach Bungalows are air-conditioned as well as having a ceiling fan and flow-through ventilation (should you prefer not to use the air-conditioning. The Beach Bungalows feature a beautiful, private walled courtyard off the back which provides privacy for the interior/exterior bathroom (shower only) and there is a nice big (mainly covered) deck off the living area complete with sun-loungers. The interior of each Beach Bungalow is spacious and with the King Bed located right at one end, there is a large remaining space for day living.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 Adults or 2 Adults and 2 Children aged under 15 years.
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed which can be split into 2 Single Beds and a convertible Day Bed.
Additional Bedding: 1 Single Bed can be added for a 2^nd child when 2 Adults and 2 kids are sharing.

 Premium Overwater Bungalows: 
55m² including decks
Virtually the same as the lower-priced Overwater Bungalows; the difference is in the provision of access directly to the water from the veranda/sundeck and their location further out on the “western pontoon”. Bathroom with shower only. Cooled by natural breezes and ceiling fans.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 Adults or 2 Adults and 2 Children aged under 15 years.
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed which can be split into 2 Single Beds and a convertible Day Bed.
Additional Bedding: 1 Single Bed can be added for a 2^nd child when 2 Adults and 2 kids are sharing.

Pool Beach Villal:
120m² with a private beach and plunge pool. Currently priced at a slight premium to the Overwater Suites in the low season, but priced the same in the high season, the Beach Villa is air-conditioned.  This is a magnificent unit with a huge amount of space everywhere.  You enter into a large reception area from which the lounge joins to the left and the separate bedroom from the right.  The bedroom has a spacious lounge area of its own. The generous bathroom is off the bedroom. Out front there is a huge deck area which easily handles 6 sun loungers and an outdoor table and chair setting and which drops down a series of easy steps to a lower deck of which the private plunge pool and the beach are both accessed.
Maximum Occupancy: 4 Adults and 1 Child or 2 Adults and 3 Children aged under 13 years.
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed which can be split into 2 Single Beds and a double sofa bed.
Additional Bedding: 1 Single Rollaway Bed may be added.

  Overwater Suites:
93m² including decks.
Located on the “northern pontoon” Overwater Suites are large and open-plan with extensive multi-level decks complete with outdoor dining setting and sun-loungers. Direct access is provided to the lagoon from the deck. The bathroom is huge with a separate bath and shower and double vanity. Like Overwater Bungalows, Overwater Suites catch the lagoon breezes but also offer air-conditioning.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 Adults and 1 Child or 2 Adults and 2 Children aged under 13 years.
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed which can be split into 2 Single Beds and a convertible Day Bed.
Additional Bedding: 1 Single Rollaway Bed may be added.

Getting To and From - Le Tikehau by Pearl Resorts
Air Tahiti services Tikehau from Tahiti by modern jet-prop aircraft with a flight most days.  Direct flights between Tahiti and Tikehau take 55 minutes.  On some days the flight stops at Rangiroa and when the Rangiroa stop is scheduled the transit time between Tahiti and Tikehau is 1 hour 50 minutes.

Arriving guests are met at the airport and transferred by vehicle to the Tuherahera town jetty to embark on the Resort Boat for the 15 minutes, (6km) trip through the lagoon to Tikehau Pearl Resort.

The Resort runs a regular Shuttle Boat to and from Tuherahera on the following schedule (subject to weather conditions etc)
