Marovo Lagoon, New Georgia, Solomon Islands

"A classic raised barrier reef island, covered in impressive rainforest, outlined by fringing reef and sandy beach; flanked by the warm lagoon waters on one side, and the oceanic depths (6000ft/2000m) of "The Slot", a deep marine abyss, on the other. Uepi Island is approximately 2.5 km long and 300 metres wide, and the whole area, aside from the resort's cultivated tropical gardens, is covered with tropical rainforest interspersed with walking tracks. Uepi Resort is the only occupier of this remote island.

Uepi Island Resort, so remote that it might never be discovered by the rest of the world, but it will always be remembered by those who have experienced its hospitality and beauty.

Our Thoughts on Uepi Island Resort
This little resort is something of a hidden gem.  Uepi Island Resort can be described as being “on an island (Uepi Island) off an island (Seghe on New Georgia Island) off an island (Honiara on Guadalcanal Island)” and while it takes a little more effort (3 steps) to access than your average off-shore island in, say Fiji, each step further out you take in Solomon Islands adds to the enjoyment and the “away from it all” experience of this wonderfully unspoiled island and lagoon environment where nature is at its best.

Many people come to Uepi to experience the world-class diving and there is a professional dive operation at the resort.  Divers of all qualifications are catered for and a “learn to dive” facility is available.  Diving offered is shore dives, night dives and boat dives.  Diving is by no means the only activity available at Uepi.  The snorkelling is some of the best you will encounter anywhere.  The Marovo Lagoon offers a very special sea kayaking environment and Uepi is the ideal base to learn to kayak.  Half day and day trips are available and the early morning guided trip is a must, even if you have never before even sat in a kayak.  Kayak Solomons also offer overnight trips to spectacular places.  Sustainable fishing is also available from small open boats and marine life is in abundance both within Marovo Lagoon and in the open sea (The Slot) immediately off Uepi.

Land-based activities include enjoying the jungle trails on the island (maps available), the extensive library at the resort which includes a wide range of subjects and a good selection of board games too.  This is a spectacular place for photography – the sunsets over the lagoon being just one of the many photographic opportunities.

Uepi Island Resort has a tariff which is inclusive of accommodation and meals and the meals are a delight.  Fresh seafood is a major attraction.  Salad vegetables are grown in the resort’s own kitchen garden.  Breakfasts and dinners are enjoyed in the "leaf haus" dining deck and lunches are delivered direct to guests’ accommodation.

In many ways a holiday at Uepi Island Resort provides travellers with the essence of the Solomon Islands.  The whole experience will probably include a night or so in the Capital Honiara, scenic flights over and around outer island mountains, visits to small island communities such as Seghe and perhaps Gizo, then boat rides through amazing lagoons and the joy of a remote small reef island surrounded by unspoiled nature and laid-back, welcoming people.  It is so worth the effort to get here.

Your Accommodation Options
The 10 units at Uepi Island Resort have been very well planned to offer such a wide range of options at what is quite a small resort.  The range on offer includes studio rooms in a block of 2 units, duplex garden units and both garden and beachfront bungalows. All accommodation units are cooled by fans and flow-through ventilation and all are raised up a few steps above the ground which also assists cooling breezes to circulate right around the buildings. The interior décor of every unit is tastefully done combining the rustic nature of a typical Solomon Islands house with the contemporary look of polished natural timber floors and light-coloured painted walls and ceilings. Every unit has a small fridge, tea/coffee facility and an ensuite bathroom with a shower and a separate toilet. No accommodation unit of any grade is located more than 40 metres from the water. Individual accommodation types are more fully described below.

Resort Minimum Stay Policy
Uepi Island Resort has a year-round minimum stay policy of 3 nights, except for the Xmas/New Year period mid-December to mid-January and Easter, when the minimum stay is 5 nights.

Room Categories (In ascending order of tariff)
Bullet Guestrooms:
The 2 Guestrooms are not beachfront but have excellent views over Marovo Lagoon from their location on a slight rise which affords good flow-through ventilation from the sea breezes. While one room is a little bigger than the other, both rooms open on to an open-sided thatched roof-covered deck.  As these 2 accommodation units share a common wall and have their decks side-by-side, the 2 room complex is ideal for a family with teen or adult children or a group of friends travelling together.
Maximum Occupancy Larger Room: 2 Adults and 1 Child
Existing Bedding:  1 King Bed or 2 Single Beds
Additional Bedding:  A Single Rollaway or Airbed for the child.
Maximum Occupancy Smaller Room: 2 Adults
Existing Bedding:  2 Double Beds
Additional Bedding:  No additional bedding accommodated

Bullet Garden Units:
The Garden Units and the Garden Bungalows share the same tariff structure, but as they have different attributes, we are showing them separately.
Garden Units are in a block of 2 units which share one common wall and which have privacy from each other. Each Unit comprises one large open-plan space and also has a large open-sided thatch roof-covered veranda deck complete with outdoor furniture and a hammock.  Although their location wouldn’t be described as beachfront, both units are situated on a raised area close to the beach which provides an excellent view of the Marovo Lagoon and allows for natural cooling by the prevailing breezes.
Maximum Occupancy Each Room: 2 guests
Existing Bedding:  1 King Bed or 2 Single Beds
Additional Bedding:  A cot for an infant aged under 3 years may be added.

Bullet Garden Bungalows:
Similar in size to the Garden Units, the 2 stand-alone Garden Bungalows are a little further back from the lagoon beach (approximately 40 metres), located in the centre of the land between Marovo Lagoon and the deep ocean, guests in each bungalow enjoy a filtered view of both the lagoon and the ocean and benefit from any breezes from both directions.  Each bungalow is open plan with combined lounge/bedroom and both also feature a large, open-sided, thatch roof covered veranda deck complete with outdoor furniture and hammock.
Maximum Occupancy Each Room: 2 guests
Existing Bedding:  1 King Bed or 2 Single Beds
Additional Bedding:  A cot for an infant aged under 3 years may be added.

Bullet Beachfront Bungalows:
Open-Plan Studio Bungalows

The 4 Beachfront Bungalows are located, as their name suggests, right on the beach frontage overlooking Marovo Lagoon.  Their nice big individual open-sided thatched verandas out front have 4 or 5 steps down to the sand.  Two of the Beachfront Bungalows are in the open-plan studio-style which makes them ideal for couples. These spacious bungalows have plenty of room for a comfortable combined lounge/sleeping area as well as a desk.  The bathrooms have recently been refurbished.
Maximum Occupancy Each Room: 2 guests
Existing Bedding:  1 King Bed or 2 Single Beds
Additional Bedding:  A cot for an infant aged under 3 years may be added.
Family Bungalows
The Family Bungalows are both a little different.  One comprises a lounge and 1 separate bedroom, the other comprises 2 separate rooms each with a small lounge area.
1 Bedroom Family Bungalow:
This bungalow has 1 ensuite bathroom.
Maximum Occupancy 1 Bedroom Family Bungalow:  4 guests
Existing Bedding:  1 King Bed in the bedroom and up to 2 Single beds (Rollaway or Airbed) set up in the lounge area.
2 Room Family Bungalow:
Comprised of 2 separate buildings joined by the common veranda/deck and separated by a 1 metre wide covered corridor. One of the rooms is open-plan style and has a King Bed, lounge area and an ensuite bathroom.  In the second room there is a partial 2.5 metre high dividing wall down the centre which results in a room suitable for 2 couples to share, but is equally good for children or a small group of adult friends.  Each side of the dividing wall can accommodate 2 people in semi-privacy. There is a small shared lounge area in this room. The bungalow’s second bathroom is accessed by a short boardwalk off the second room.
Maximum Occupancy 2 Room Family Bungalow: up to 6 guests
Existing Bedding: In one room a King Bed or 2 Single Beds
In the second room: 2 Double Beds or 4 Single Beds or a combination of both.
Additional Bedding: 1 baby cot can be added for infants aged up to 2 years.

Getting to and from Uepi Island Resort
The airport which serves Uepi Island Resort is located at Seghe, some 18kms by boat across the lagoon to and from Uepi Island.  Seghe Airport enjoys flights from Honiara (60 minutes on a domestic flight) and from Gizo (30 minute flight).  Flights are usually on a Twin Otter turbo-prop aircraft operated by Solomon Airlines. As the domestic flights to and from the crushed coral airstrip at Seghe are always subject to timetable changes at short notice, we recommend an overnight transit stop in Honiara between international and domestic flights even if timetables do officially allow for a direct connection.

Once guests for Uepi Island arrive at Seghe, Uepi staff are there to meet the flight and provide transport assistance to the resort’s 17 metre long boat for the fast, scenic transfer 18kms over the Marovo Lagoon to the island.  We can also organise Uepi Island’s representative in Honiara to assist with transfers between the international and domestic terminals.

Kids Policy
Children are welcome at any time at Uepi Island Resort.
Children aged under 3 years stay and eat free when sharing a room with parents.  Cots and High Chairs are available for the little ones.
To cover the cost of meals, older children are charged a reasonable amount to stay and eat at Uepi Island.  Broadly speaking the charge for a child aged 3 to 6 years is approximately 20% of the adult price and a child aged 7 to 12 years is charged approximately 30% of the adult price. These charged refer to the cost of accommodation, meals and transfers between Seghe Airport and Uepi Island.

Check-in/Check Out
Check-in and check-out times are set to coincide with flight arrival and departure times at Seghe Airport.
