OUR Thoughts on Scenic Matavai Resort, Tamakautonga, Niue
The Scenic Matavai Resort is in a great spot.  We reckon it captures the essence of Niue with its remarkable arrangements of decks, some of which are cantilevered off the cliff and provide guests with an awesome view of Niue's long, rocky coast, the narrow reef and the ocean.  The turtles, dolphins and whales really do come in very close here. The swimming pools, (which are not really big enough for serious laps but still very pleasant), are set in these decks and the new poolside bar is very popular for drinks and snacks.  There is a lovely big deck off the restaurant and diners really enjoy the ocean views from the restaurant. Remember, all this is only 10 minutes by car from town, the airport, the golf club, the main grocery store and the liquor outlet.

Niue Blue is located next door to Scenic Matavai Resort, so all your dive, snorkelling needs, dolphin swims and whale encounters are taken care of right there.  There are sea tracks which start near here and you will find hours of enjoyment getting to know the various scenic tracks which lead down to the reef through the spectacular rocky outcrops and colourful tropical bush.  You will come across secluded caves which house little private pools and even two or three tiny sandy coves (although the volume of sand can vary depending on the recent wave action) and the reef always provides great interest at low tide.

A little further south along the road you come to Avatele Beach.  Don’t miss the Washaway Café which only opens on a Sunday – great views, great food and snacks and really cold beer!  It opens ‘till late on Sunday and it’s a perfect spot to meet some of Niue's local characters!

Your Accommodation Options
As you arrive at Scenic Matavai Resort, the main facilities block housing the hotel lobby, restaurant, meeting rooms, bar etc is directly ahead of you.  There are two, two-level blocks of rooms off to your right, these are the Ocean Rooms. To the left of the public area and spread over quite an area of oceanfront land there are 4 single storey blocks of rooms, each containing 5 accommodation units. The Ocean View Rooms have been divided into two sub-categories including Ocean Room (Garden View) and Ocean Room (Pacific View). All Ocean View Rooms have been refreshed with new décor and luxurious bedding. The Ocean View rooms have been complimented with the new furnishings. The Clifftop Rooms are right on the front of the resort near the cliff face and the Superior Rooms are a little behind – both types feature sea views from their patio.  Both Superior and Clifftop Rooms feature natural timber floors and a modern light and bright décor. The 2 separate blocks in each category are linked to the main complex decking area by a walk-bridge for easy access and other pathways are formed around the rooms linking to the car park and Reception. Another block features 12 two-level Deluxe Clifftop Rooms. Deluxe Cliff Top Rooms are the premier accommodation type at Scenic Matavai Resort Niue.  

All accommodation is air-conditioned and the tariff includes a continental buffet breakfast. Some “Specials” may be offered from time-to-time during the year which do not include breakfast.  However, we can always provide you with a price to include breakfast if required.

 Ocean Rooms - Garden View (Ground Floor)
Ocean Room’s private patio offers prime views of the Resort’s tropical gardens and pools. Each room has tiled floors, modern furnishings and a pleasant bathroom.
Maximum Occupancy: 2 Adults and 1 Child or 3 Adults
Existing Bedding: 1 Super King bed which can be split into 2 single beds
Additional Bedding: One Single Rollaway Bed may be added to rooms for the use of a child or 3rd Adult (on request as there are limited number of extra beds at the resort)

 Ocean Rooms - Pacific View (Upper Floor)
Ocean Room’s private balcony offers prime views of the Resort’s tropical gardens, pools and Pacific Ocean. There are no lifts in either building, so it’s a walk up the stairs to reach the first-floor rooms. Some rooms on both floors are interconnecting which is ideal for a family stay.  Each room has tiled floors, modern furnishings and a pleasant bathroom.

Existing Bedding: 1 Super King bed which can be split into 2 single beds
Additional Bedding: One Single Rollaway Bed may be added to rooms for the use of a child or 3rd Adult (on request as there are limited number of extra beds at the resort)

 Superior Rooms
The 10 Superior Rooms are set amongst the trees and enjoy views of the ocean - they have an incredibly tranquil feel to them. Interconnecting rooms are available.
Maximum Occupancy: 2 Adults
Existing Bedding: 1 Super King bed which can be split into 2 single beds. 
Additional Bedding: No additional bedding accommodated.

 Superior Cliff Top Rooms
The 10 Cliff Top Rooms are located in 2 ground-level blocks close to the cliff face and every room features an expansive view of the ocean – watch the whales passing below during the whale migration season!
Maximum Occupancy:  2 Adults
Existing Bedding: 1 Super King bed which can be split into 2 single beds
Additional Bedding:  No additional bedding accommodated.

 Deluxe Cliff Top Rooms
Premium accommodation at Scenic Matavai Resort, the 12 spacious, Deluxe Cliff Top Rooms are located in a two-level block close to the cliff face so that every room offers a beautiful ocean view from the balcony.
Maximum Occupancy:  2 Adults
Existing Bedding: 1 Super King bed which can be split into 2 single beds
Additional Bedding:  No additional bedding accommodated. 

Accessibility
 The Resort is very wheelchair friendly. 
      Guests in wheel chairs can easily access the
      pool areas, ground floor rooms and restaurants.
 One Ocean Room is set up with an
      accessible bathroom

Getting To and From Scenic Matavai Resort Niue
Matavai Resort personally meets all arriving guests at Niue’s airport. Complimentary return arrival and departure airport transfers are provided for all guests. Avatele Beach is 2kms away, the airport is 5.6kms from The Resort and Alofi Town Centre and Market is an wasy 8.6km drive.

Kids’ Policy
 Kids Stay Free
Up to 2 children aged under 12 years may share a fold-out sofa bed (in those Superior Rooms which contain a sofa bed) when sharing the room with parents.
1 Child may sleep on a Rollaway Bed (limited numbers available) free of charge when sharing a Superior Room with parents – (Note – maximum 1 child per room and children are not accommodated in Superior Cliff Top Rooms).
The use of cots is complimentary but subject to availability.

 Little Kids Eat Free
Children aged under 4 years eat free when dining at the resort with parents/guardians.

 50% Meal Discount for Kids aged 4 to 12 years
Children aged between 4 and 12 years qualify for a 50% discount off meals when dining at the resort with parents/guardians.
