Our Resort Report

OUR thoughts on Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, 120 Kaiulani Avenue, Waikiki
It’s hard to believe that Sheraton Princess Kaiulani was first opened in 1955 – it still looks and feels comfortable and quite modern. What the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani has going for it is its excellent value for money, its great location and the pleasant “Hawaiian feel” about the place.  You could hardly be closer to the beach without actually being on the beach and because the hotel is not directly on the beach frontage, this is reflected in the price. Sheraton Princess Kaiulani fronts Kalakaua Avenue to the south, Kaiulani Avenue to the east and The International Market Place to the west.  The up-market Moana Surfrider Hotel, A Westin Resort & Spa is opposite on the beachside of Kalakaua Avenue and Kings Village with its boutique restaurants and shops is on the other side of Kaiulani Street.  Staying at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani you are only half a block away from the hustle and bustle of Kuhio Avenue past the Ohana Waikiki East Hotel.

The hotel has a designated area for guest use on Waikiki Beach at “Big Kahuna Beach Service” which includes use of sand chairs, fresh towels and a whole-fruit and water service which is provided twice daily between 10:00am and 2:00pm to guests seated in this designated area. The designated area is in the vicinity of the Duke Kahanamoku Statue on the beach right beside the Moana Surfrider Hotel. This service is provided as part of the Resort Fee structure.

The hotel offers 2 pool-side restaurants, one of which features a nightly buffet dinner which would have to be one of the best buffet meals available in Hawaii – make sure you arrive hungry! Sheraton Princess Kaiulani also has a big program of regular services for guests to enjoy – room service meals (breakfast and dinner), five nights a week Polynesian Journey dinner and cocktail show and a very good 24-hour Fitness Centre.  Cultural activities, each on a different day of the week include pineapple carving, flower lei making, hula lessons, ukulele lessons and Hawaiian quilt making lessons. Wifi is available in various hotspots around the hotel lobby extending to the beach as well as in all hotel rooms. A “Doctors on Call” 24-hour Medical Clinic is located on property. The coin-operated laundry in the basement is useful for those guests who have packed light.

Sheraton Princess Kaiulani participates in the “Stay at One, Dine at All” program offered where guests at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani can enjoy dining, shows, oceanfront entertainment options, fitness center, and spa at Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Sheraton Waikiki and The Royal Hawaiian and simply sign the charges back to their room at Princess Kaiulani.

What Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Say About Themselves:
"Located at the former entrance site of the Ainahau Estate, once home to Hawaii’s beloved Princess Victoria Kaiulani and a crosswalk away from the world-famous Waikiki Beach.

Opened on King Kamehameha Day in 1955, Sheraton Princess Kaiulani was, at that time, the largest hotel built in Hawaii since The Royal Hawaiian in 1927. The hotel houses historic photographs of the princess and the royal monarchy throughout the property. In 1958, The Sheraton Meeting House (now the Ainahau Showroom) was added and built adjacent to the hotel.

With 1,142 rooms, Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel reveals Hawaii at its most charming, capturing views of the jewel-bright Pacific and Diamond Head, the Koolau Mountains, and Honolulu's fabled city lights. This Waikiki Hotel offers the best of the city and is just steps from famed Waikiki Beach."

Your Accommodation Options
Sheraton Princess Kaiulani has 3 accommodation wings - each has distinctly different features when it comes to the number of floors and room outlook.  The City Wing has 10 accommodation floors and offers a choice of two outlooks – either outward over Kaiulani Avenue towards Kings Village or inward (westward) with balconies overlooking the rear courtyard. The Princess Wing has 12 accommodation floors and has rooms either facing towards the pool (rooms on higher floors have an ocean view) or with city views from rooms at the back.

The main tower, known as “The Tower”, has 25 accommodation floors and offers City View Rooms, Partial Ocean View Rooms and High Ocean View Rooms either on the front facing Diamond Head or on the opposite side overlooking the International Marketplace.
Some rooms at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani may appear a little dated in their décor but they are comfortable and good value for money.   All rooms feature the Sheraton special beds, the new bath amenities line created exclusively for Sheraton guests called “Shine by Bliss” featuring fresh Mandarin and mint-scented shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion, tea/coffee making facilities and a mini fridge.

The hotel is undergoing a progressive room renovation program and so far, all Tower Skyline Partial Ocean View Rooms and Tower Premier Ocean View Rooms have been through the renovation process.

There is not a huge difference in the prices between all the different categories at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, so we suggest you consider the benefits of the higher graded rooms and compare them in price/value with the lower graded rooms when contemplating a stay at this property.
