HILTON GARDEN INN WAIKIKI BEACH
2330 Kuhio Avenue, Waikik
OUR Thoughts on Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach
Formerly known as the Ohana Waikiki West Hotel and renovated and upgraded in 2016, Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach is very centrally located diagonally across Kuhio Avenue from the all-new International Market Place. Walk out the front of the hotel on to Kuhio Avenue and you are surrounded by all the facilities you could possibly need - shops, restaurants, a supermarket, lounge bars, bus stop for “TheBus” and the Waikiki Trolley. Staying here, you are just one block from Kalakaua Avenue either walking through the International Market Place, down Dukes Lane with all its market stalls or via Kaiulani Avenue past Kings Village. Of course, Waikiki Beach is right on the other side of Kalakaua Avenue. It’s easy walking distance to the Zoo and the Aquarium from here.
Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach is a big hotel comprising 623 rooms spread over 18 floors and bounded by Kuhio Avenue, Walina Street and Nahua Street. Its main claims to fame apart from its location and recent refurbishment is that, like all Hilton Garden Inn-branded hotels, every room has a microwave oven, under-counter fridge, Keurig® (capsule) coffee/teamaker, 48-inch LCD TV and an iron and ironing board. The microwave is a good facility to have to warm up food you might have purchased from the grab and go café on the ground floor or food from The Food Pantry supermarket which is almost next door on Kuhio Avenue and opens until 1:00am. The Food Pantry is a real American-style supermarket although the prices tend to reflect its Waikiki location.
The rooms at this hotel (especially the Standard Rooms) had always been compact and the bathrooms quite cramped with little vanity space. Hilton Garden Inn’s designers have done a great job with the renovation moving the bathroom vanity into the space previously occupied by a kitchenette; this has done wonders – now there’s a decent-sized shower too.
This hotel has a nice little sunny pool, is handy to everything and offers free wifi throughout. The Pink (Shopping) Line on the Waikiki Trolley and TheBus stops are almost outside the hotel on Kuhio Avenue. Sometimes the Trolley can be heavily patronised especially from Ala Moana back to the hotel and if you ever find you can’t get a seat, TheBus is a very good alternative (it only costs US$2.50 one way). TheBus is also a great way to get to Pearl Harbour, The Aloha Tower and pretty well everywhere else around the island of Oahu.
