Our Resort Report

Our Thoughts on Uprising Beach Resort, Beach Road, Pacific Harbour, Viti Levu, Fiji
The 3.5 star-rated Uprising Resort is a very special Resort in a very special part of Fiji. For years, Fiji locals have known and loved Deuba Beach which stretches for kilometre after wonderful kilometre from Pacific Harbour off into the distance to the east around a massive bay.  Now, through Uprising Resort, visitors can experience this beach environment too. Deuba Beach is a wild and natural white-sand beach where the palms and tropical trees grow right on to the sand and where the sun-bleached flotsam washes up on the shore. Once you get around the low rock wall marking the outflow of a small creek which borders Uprising you can wander for kilometres at will.

Uprising is located at the water’s edge at the end of Beach Road, a quiet side-road off the main Queens Road which runs along the south coast of Viti Levu between the Nadi and Suva. A 15-minute walk, or 3 minute taxi ride (F$3-$4.00) up Beach Road brings you to The Fiji Arts Centre at Pacific Harbour with its fifty-plus shops (including a supermarket), around a dozen eating places and the Fiji cultural displays and shows.  If you have never tasted goat curry, this is the place to give this delicious dish a try!

Of course, you don’t have to leave Uprising to get a good meal.  The Uprising Restaurant is in a great beach-side setting and has a wide wooden deck out front for alfresco dining. The beaut little beachfront bar serves amazing cocktails and mocktails and there is a 2-hour "Happy Hour" each day.

What really makes Uprising so different and so special is the terrific mix of clientele they enjoy.  There are plenty of Backpacker Hotels in Fiji of varying standards, but there are very few resorts which cater to a mixture of families, couple and backpackers together.  The Treehouse Dorm at Uprising is very good quality and has a price which attracts the higher-end backpackers. Backpackers from all over the World and families and couples mix happily and this diversity delivers a very pleasant atmosphere of relaxation as well as liveliness and fun. Residents of Pacific Harbour enjoy this atmosphere too and it’s not at all unusual to find yourself chatting to a local over dinner or a drink. The beach volleyball court is always in use and all the Resort’s activities are busy and well patronised.

Uprising is an excellent choice for active holidaymakers, but for those who prefer a more sedate holiday, you will find that here too, especially when staying in the new Deluxe Villas which are located at the quieter end of the Resort.

We recommend this as a very central place from which to enjoy much of the best that Fiji has to offer.  Experience the original Firewalkers at the Arts Centre, enjoy snorkelling on the magnificent coral gardens in the Beqa Lagoon, take a day trip into Suva City, take the shark-feeding trip, do a Jet-ski Safari, go wreck diving and white-water rafting, experience Kula World and Zip Line Fiji, enjoy golf on the 18-hole golf course at Pacific Harbour. And, remember, from this resort, there is regular access to Frigates Passage – reputedly one of the top 5 surf spots in the world.

Bullet Wedding Packages
Uprising offers 3 different Wedding Packages ranging from their Wasawasa Classic Package, their Baravai Package and the Nukuvula Premier Package. See our Wedding tab for more details, however we would like to mention here that their basic Wasawasa Classic Package is possibly the best value wedding package offered in Fiji.  The Wasawasa Classic Package is offered free of charge if you do an exclusive resort buyout – that is, if you book the whole resort (24 private accommodations and the 20-Bed Treehouse Dormitory) for a minimum 3 nights.  A flat rate cost is offered.  If you are planning a wedding in Fiji, chat to Our Wedding Specialist about the options at Uprising.

Your Accommodation Options
There are three categories of accommodation at Uprising Resort – a 20 bed (10 bunk beds) Treehouse Dormitory, fan-cooled Garden View Bures and Beachfront Bures and air-conditioned Deluxe Villas.  The whole Resort is in a beautiful lawn setting beside the beach with lots of palm trees growing on the beach and back through the resort grounds.  The resort Reception faces out to the landscaped swimming pool and the restaurant and main bar is off to the left as you face the beach.  The location of the various types of resort accommodation has been well thought out.  Closest to the Uprising Restaurant and bar are the Bures.  The Treehouse Dormitory is at the back of the resort and overlooks the gardens and lawns towards the Bures and far enough away from all the other accommodation to ensure any noise emanating from the dormitory does not bother other guests. The most-recently added accommodation, the Deluxe Villas are located further along the beach, furthest away from the restaurant and bar action.

Room Categories (In ascending order of tariff)
Bullet Classic Standard Garden View Bures:
Bullet Classic Standard Beachfront Bures:
At 42m2 in size, Bures are big and airy. Standard Beachfront Bures are located only steps from the beach across a beautiful little stretch of lawn.  Standard Garden View Bures are arranged in a semi-circle behind the Beachfront Bures and from their veranda, may have a glimpse of the sea between the trees.

Open-plan, the Bures have a pleasing natural wood and fibre interior cladding together with a high, sloping ceiling.  The floor in the furnished living area is ceramic tiles and there is a single step up to the sleeping platform which has a wooden plank floor. The interior Bure opens off a covered veranda at the front.  A pleasant feature of the Bures is the open-air shower.  A few steps from the bathroom will bring you to an outdoor “room” with an open-to-the-sky hot water shower.  The outdoor shower room has a door to ensure privacy. Bures are cooled by flow-through screened louvre windows, ceiling fans and the nice high ceilings. Bures have tea/coffee facilities and an under-counter fridge.
Maximum Occupancy: 4 Adults or 2 Adults and 3 Children aged up to 12 years.
Existing Bedding: 1 Queen Bed and 1 Single Bed
Additional Bedding: 2 Single Rollaway Beds for children can be added.

Bullet Deluxe Garden View Villas:
Bullet Deluxe Beachfront Villas:
All Deluxe Villas are exceptional for the price.  Significantly bigger at 72m2 than the Standard Bures (which are spacious enough in themselves), they feature a separate bedroom and separate lounge.  Floors are polished timber and there is a massively high Fiji Bure-style ceiling.  Walls are painted in a light, modern colour – the décor is very much in contemporary style with a major Fiji influence. From both the bedroom and the lounge, separate sliding doors open directly on to the veranda.  All Deluxe Villas are air-conditioned as well as having ceiling fans, high ceilings and flow-through ventilation for a natural cooling option if preferred. Each has a huge bathroom with a bathtub (shower over).  The bathroom opens to a private paved courtyard which features a stone-inlaid shower which is open to the sky.

Deluxe Villa Facilities include: a balcony off both the bedroom & living room, tea, & coffee, refrigerator, indoor shower and bath tub, landscaped open air shower, air conditioning, Ceiling Fans, 42’ LCD Television, Wifi hotspot, IPod dock, DVD Player, Iron & Ironing Board

The 8 Deluxe Garden View Villas are arranged in a sweeping arc facing an expansive central lawn and garden on three sides and the 4 Deluxe Beachfront Villas on the fourth side.  This creates a pleasant village atmosphere.  While the Deluxe Beachfront Villas are right on the beach frontage, the Deluxe Garden Villas are all very handy to the beach which is accessed across the “village” lawn.

The 4 Deluxe Beachfront Villas are only steps away from the beach.  At this end of the beach at Uprising, there is less beachfront vegetation so guests in the Beachfront Villas enjoy uninterrupted views out over the Beqa Lagoon to Beqa, Yanuca, Stewart and Storm Islands.
Maximum Occupancy: 4 Adults or 2 Adults and up to 3 Children aged up to 12 years.
Existing Bedding: 1 Queen Bed and 1 Single Bed.
Additional Bedding: 2 additional Single Beds can be utilised in the Lounge area.

Bullet Treehouse Shared Accommodation (Dormitory)
One of the nicest Dorms we’ve seen in Fiji. The Treehouse Dormitory is built up 3 metres from the ground (like a house on stilts). Stairs lead up to a large deck which is furnished with large, comfortable, colourful beanbags for relaxing. The view from the deck is great - guests can see right over the top of the Bures and there is even a peep of water through the trees on the beach. Go inside to the dorm and its one big room with 10 sets of bunks. At the back of the building there are modern, tiled, separate female and male bathrooms with hot and cold showers. Dormitory cooling is from natural breezes via louvered windows with nets and a nice high bure-style ceiling. Lockers, linen, towels and toiletries are provided.
Maximum Occupancy: 20
Existing Bedding: 10 sets of bunks (1 up/1 down).

Getting To and From Uprising Beach Resort
It takes 2 to 2.5 hours (depending on road traffic) to drive from Nadi Airport to Uprising.  From Suva’s Nausori Airport, it can take approximately 90 minutes.  Our Specialists will organise the best transfer option for you.  The easiest option for airport transfers is Uprising Resort’s own Shuttle Van and we can include this in package prices as required/agreed.

For those guests travelling to Uprising from or to other mainland resorts, there is an option of the regular air-conditioned coach which runs a timetabled service twice a day between Nadi and Suva via the Queens Road.  This is a reasonable-price option although it can take an hour or so longer than a shuttle or private vehicle/rental car to get to/from Nadi as it stops at most of the resorts along the way to drop-off and pick-up passengers and their luggage. If you are not in a hurry (and who is in Fiji?) this option gives you a comfortable and interesting look at the resorts and the village scenery along the way.

Uprising is only a 5/10 min for guests to walk to a bank, grocery store, bread shop, bottle shop, a variety of restaurants, cultural centre marketplace and fresh produce stalls.

Families and Children.
Children of all ages are welcome at Uprising Beach Resort which offers itself as a safe and pleasant environment for families.
Bullet Kids Stay Free
