Our Resort Report

Temporary Suspension of Operations Due COVID-19
and delay to Phase 2 Development

Plantation Island Resort is temporarily closed and will repen
31 July 2020

OUR thoughts on Plantation Island Resort, Malolo Lailai Island, Mamanuca Islands
From the moment you arrive at Plantation you can't help but notice two things; firstly, the amount of holiday activity going on around the beach, and secondly, the fact that everyone is having such a great time! Years ago holidaymakers mainly arrived by air and were taken from the air-strip to Reception in the middle of the Resort by a tractor-drawn open-sided carriage. The flights have dwindled to a trickle now and In the most recent up-grading of the resort, Reception has moved to a brand new building close to a new jetty which is located closer to the airstrip and where guests arrive on the "Malolo Cat" - a fast catamaran service from Port Denarau Marina on the mainland which operates 4 times a day. The smiling staff members meet you at the jetty singing a welcome song before escorting you to the Reception lobby where part of the welcoming process is the showing of a 5-minute video which gives an excellent insight into all the facilities and special amenities available at the resort,.

Plantation Island Resort is a difficult place to categorise in as much that it has an enormous range of accommodation types, some of which is probably best ranked as a good 3 star standard, while other accommodation certainly ranks up to 4 star, but no matter what grade you choose, you can be assured that it is comfortable, clean and well serviced. To directly quote Plantation Island Resort; they regard their Resort as “A 3 star Resort in a 5 Star location”.

Since 2012, Plantation Island Resort has undertaken extensive room refurbishments and upgrades of the property. Upgrades include the demolition and total removal of the old Hotel Room Block (looking at the resort now, you would never know the hotel block had ever existed!), adding brand new blocks of hotel rooms and bures further down the island, the new Black Coral Restaurant (renamed Black Coral Grill from 01 September 2019), new boatshed, new Water Park, new watersports equipment and so-on. With these improvements, the resort gets better and better while it continues to offer guests exceptional value for a Fiji off-shore Island holiday.  The vast majority of accommodation units have been refurbished by third quarter 2019 and the all-new Hotel Rooms have been welcoming guests since 01 September 2019 and now, (in February 2020) it has been announced that a major up-grading of the central facility of the resort, including the main pool, restaurant, a new coffee shop etc will take place later in the year.

There are several restaurants from which to choose.  The Ol’Copra Shed serves buffet-style breakfast 7-10am, buffet lunch 12-2pm and buffet dinners with a different theme each night 6-9pm. From 01 September Tavola Restaurant & Bar serves light breakfasts (an alternative to the Ol'Copra Shed), then staying open through to 9:00pm with lots of family lunch favourites and dinners each night featuring dinner specials in a beachside or poolside setting. The Kana Vale Snack Bar is open 10am-6:00pm daily serving a range of grab 'n go options such as wraps, paninins and hot dogs, with pizzas only between 4:00pm and 6:00pm and the newly named Black Coral Grill specialises in grilles meat and seafood along with their ever-popular hot-rock options.  In addition, adults may choose to dine at the nearby boutique Lomani Resort restaurant. Don’t overlook Plantation’s great little on-site mini-supermarket and the option of visiting the restaurant at Musket Cove Resort which is accessed after an easy walk around the end of the airstrip.

In the last couple of years a new Executive Chef has been appointed resulting in an overall improvement to the food quality and restaurant service at Plantation Island Resort.  We’re pleased to be able to report a good deal of positive feed-back from our clients.

Weddings and Vow Renewals are another feature of the services available at Plantation Island Resort.  This is a great location for a wedding and a wide range of wedding packages are available from their classic, very well-priced “Romantic Lailai Wedding” through to their “Deluxe Inclusive Wedding Package” with all the trimmings. Our Specialists have full details.

Wedding Coordinator Appointed
on 19th August, 2019, Plantation Island Resort appointed an on-island Wedding Coordinator.  Our Pacific’s established Wedding Specialist can now work with the resort’s Wedding Coordinator to ensure perfect travel and wedding arrangements for your perfect Plantation Island Wedding.

A lovely new feature for weddings at Plantation Island Resort
To commemorate couples who have chosen Plantation Island Resort as the location for their wedding, the resort now offers a special extra feature.  Started in early 2018, wedding couples will plant a baby coconut tree immediately after they say “I Do!”  The trees are all labelled and numbered, so the couple can visit their tree in the future.

Planting a baby coconut tree to symbolise the growth in their relationship is included complimentary in all Plantation Island Resort wedding packages. The resort will the recognise the couple’s wedding anniversary each year by sending an anniversary notice and a photo of the tree.

Plantation Island is a place for active people too.  There is so many activities on offer, some are complimentary to guests and some have a charge involved.  One such charged activity is surfing. If you are an accomplished surfer the world famous "Cloud Break" is just 20 minutes away by boat but there's a choice of seven popular breaks right on the island’s doorstep which are accessed by resort boat transfers and the prices are reasonable starting at FJ$76 per person for 3-4 hours surfing at Wilkes, Swimming Pools, Restaurants, Namotu Left and Tavarua Right.  The world-famous Cloudbreak and Desperations for advanced surfers costs a little more at F$99 per person for 4 hour trip out by boat which gives around 3 hours surfing time.  Surfing can be prepaid through Our Specialists. The 9-hole golf course at Plantation has recently been upgraded and the greens and fairways are much improved and the other good news is that stand-up paddle boarding is now a complimentary activity to go with complimentary use of snorkelling equipment (refundable deposit required), kayaks, stand-up paddle boards (free for 30 minutes), Hobie Cats, windsurfers, mini-golf, the fantastic kids’ water park and more.

Plantation is still a real "sand between the toes" kind of place. The improvements and enhancements have only added to the feeling of total relaxation that draws you immediately into holiday mode. Staying at Plantation Island Resort, rekindles childhood memories for couples, honeymooners and families of those wonderful annual beach holidays in a small beach community (complete with corner store and pub) for a summer holiday with your family, where youngsters ran free all day and made friends with the other holidaymakers.  Remember that?  When you find a place just like that on a Fiji Island and add swimming pools (one with a slide), restaurants, golf, kids club, tennis court, separate adults and kids water parks, water sports such as glass-bottom and double kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, Hobie Cats and windsurfing gear plus diving and surfing (to name a few), you will start to understand the reason this Resort has such a high rate of repeat customers.

“From the very first moment you arrive at Plantation Island you will experience the warmth and friendliness of our staff who will make you holiday one of the most memorable you will ever experience.

Plantation Island Resort is nestled on the 553 acre island of Malolo LaiLai, part of the Mamanuca Group of islands and is just 10 miles offshore west of Nadi International Airport. Plantation Island Resort utilises 23 acres of tropical landscaped gardens and coconut palms and has 7km of white sandy beaches, part of which fronts the beautiful sheltered lagoon. Plantation Island can offer you total relaxation or a wide range of leisure activities and cultural excursions. Relax around our many pools or swim in the beautiful blue water lagoon, take part in our featured activities or sip a cocktail at one of our many bars while you watch the sunset and take all the time you need to discover the magic of Plantation Island Resort.

Plantation Island has extensive accommodation covering all price ranges. From luxury hotel rooms to lavish traditional fijian huts known as ‘bures’. All accommodation is close to the beach and all the Resort’s facilities.
