OCTOPUS RESORT
Our Resort Report

Our Thoughts on Octopus Resort, Likuliku Bay, Waya Island, Yasawa Islands, Fiji
Octopus is the third Yasawa Islands resort in the group comprising Paradise Cove, Blue Lagoon Resort and Octopus Resort and carries on the tradition of all three - a spectacular beach location, a wide range of accommodation types to cater successfully to a really diverse clientele, a compulsory meal plan and a very close and harmonious relationship with their local Fijian Village.

Octopus Resort, on Waya Island in the south of the Yasawa Islands Group and the biggest single island of all the Yasawa islands, is only 1½ hours by fast resort boat from Vuda Point Marina on the mainland, so guests here get to experience the sublime Yasawa Islands without the long sea trip needed to get to some of the other resorts out here off Fiji’s west coast.  There is reasonable cell phone coverage and complimentary Wifi hotspots too, in the public areas around the pool and bar.  Octopus Resort is on the western side of Waya Island, so the sunsets from the resort are sublime. Being a "high" island, the interior of Waya can be quite steep in places, but for those making the effort to trek to the top the views are spectacular.  The resort is located on a long beach on Likuliku Bay which has a rocky bluff at each end – rounding the northern bluff brings you to another superb, (and mainly deserted) beach off which the marine life (fish and coral) is undisturbed and prolific.  Mind you, there’s not too much wrong with the snorkelling off the beach directly outside Octopus Resort either.

The resort itself really grows on you very quickly; as they say themselves, it has a truly laid-back atmosphere with its sand floor restaurant and bars and it only takes minutes for arriving guests to be right into the relaxed vibe of the place.

To complement the resort’s swimming pool with its ample sun-loungers and shade umbrellas, there is a lovely little private Spa Bure, the Sulua Day Spa which offers massage, pedicure and manicure services, daily Yoga classes and a PADI Dive Shop providing access to over 30 incredible dive sites for those guests into scuba diving. The regular day trips for guests to swim with the Manta Rays from May to October are very popular.

One of the many features of Octopus Resort is the fact that their great location, good food and their wide range of accommodation types attracts an eclectic range of interesting guests from all over the world.  To rub shoulders with other guests from such diverse backgrounds especially during cocktail hour and community meal times is a delight.

Octopus is a good choice for singles, couples of all ages, honeymooners and families with kids of all ages.  We specifically recommend Octopus for Kiwi families with teenage/early 20s kids, as, with the high-quality dormitory accommodation attracting younger (and young-at-heart) travellers from all over the world, there is always plenty of activity around and lasting friendships to be made.

Self-rated - a 3.5 Star Boutique Resort.

What Octopus Resort Say About Themselves
"We cater to a wide mix of guests, some who are traveling around the world for many months and are budget conscious, as well as families & couples who have planned a special getaway to Fiji.

The resort is quite laid back and we find that most guests prefer the daily ‘beach attire’ of sarongs and swimwear for the women and T shirt and swimming trunks’ for the men. More often than not, you will find that you forget all together about your shoes and go barefoot everywhere. The bar and restaurant have a sand floor, so no shoes needed at meal times.

Breakfast includes the freshest and juiciest in season fruit, toast and preserves, cereals, yogurts, tea, coffee and fruit juices, and daily baking hot from the oven, along with our ever popular “build your own” omelette station, or eggs anyway you like them. And there are always several hot items on the breakfast buffet if an omelette is not your speed.

Lunch is a la carte and could be a fresh salad, one of our famous “burgers”, a wrap, or a Thai chicken curry, there are always daily specials too. Also available fruit platters, banana smoothies, a cold beer or seasonal seafood specials – the list goes on.

Dinner is A La Carte 4 nights a week with the menu changing regularly, it starts with an entree followed by a main course, then dessert, the other three nights are served family style, and one night is our famous BBQ night. We have an extensive menu at Octopus so there’s plenty of variety.

The minute you step onto the beautiful mile long, golden sand beach at Likuliku Bay, you will be on ‘Fiji Time’. You will find some of the best snorkeling and diving in Fiji, just step outside your front door. Our beautiful reef is only a few meters from the shore, and is a self-protected marine reserve. With a keen focus on the Fijian culture and a strong connection with the local village, the resort offers what Fiji is all about and boasts some of the warmest, friendliest people anywhere in the world, come and meet the “real Fiji”.

Your Accommodation Options
Octopus Resort has a wide range of accommodation options, some options are really unique to Octopus Resort, so we feel that it is important to spell them all out in some detail to ensure you know exactly what you are going to experience when you holiday at this remarkable little resort. We will start with the cheapest option and move on up to the most expensive with the most features.  Octopus Resort has an interesting range of “budget” accommodation options as well as some really super beachfront Villas which have excellent facilities and which would fit very comfortably into many higher rated Fiji Island Resorts.
