MANGO BAY RESORT
Namatakula, Tadrawai, Coral Coast, Fiji

“Welcome!

Nestled within the Tadrawai (Dreamwater) Valley and set across 12 acres of lush tropical landscape. MANGO BAY RESORT
overlooks the enclosed bay offering sheltered clear waters and stunning white beachfront. Days are filled with action and adventure & newly introduced Surf School.
Mango Bay Resort's aim is to provide like-minded travelers with stylish, comfortable and affordable accommodation and facilities. It is for the young at heart who love adventure!"

Our Thoughts on Mango Bay Resort
What a great little Resort!  Imagine a lovely quiet sandy cove, beautiful beach and an outlook towards the distant off-shore islands, a wide green lawn dotted with authentic-looking Fiji Bures and all this not on an off-shore island, but on Fiji’s famous Coral Coast half way between Nadi and Suva.  You arrive and leave by road – no boats, no ‘planes, no hanging around waiting for connections – you’re on Fiji’s main island but Mango Bay Resort feels like an intimate off-shore island resort.  When we first visited we left wondering why it had taken so long for a resort to be built on this incredible site.

Mango Bay Resort has been known as a “Flashpacker Resort” but has recently been upgrading its facilities and accommodation to cater for a wider market.  They still retain 3 “Jungle Bures” each catering for 6 guests in each which cater for the upmarket backpacker market and that adds something special to the whole resort experience as their small backpacker community delivers all the positive experiences of a Backpacker Resort, such as a great mixing and sharing of travel experiences, finding like-minded travellers to enjoy Fiji travel experiences with and some lively social life.  What you get here is all this and more.  On our most recent visit, during the day there were guests quietly sitting around the pool reading books and enjoying a traditional Fiji Beach resort holiday, while many other guests were out and about enjoying some of the more strenuous activities on offer.

Continental breakfast is included every day in the tariff. Complimentary tea and coffee is available all day at the beaut little restaurant (The Moody Marlin) which is known for the freshest of fresh seafood.  The local fishermen land their daily catches close by and the chefs at Mango Bay are always right there! All meals are available and are taken either in The Moody Marlin Restaurant or poolside.

This is a great spot and great value for couples, families with teenage kids, Honeymooners (they do excellent Weddings here too) and people of all ages to enjoy a predominantly child-free holiday in a superb location while mixing with interesting fellow travellers from all over the world.

Surf School
In the last couple of years Mango Bay Resort has introduced their “Learn to surf” program which has proved to be a great success and is really popular. With its own surf school based at Natadola Beach, Mango Bay provides novice surfers with a surf board, transfers to the surf break at Natadola and experienced instructors that can teach wave selection, paddling, standing techniques and ocean safety. The program is aimed at those who haven’t surfed before, but everyone is welcome to participate by joining the transfer to the Natadola Break to hone their surfing skills.
The package includes:
  • Transfers to and from the surfing spot
  Rash vest
  Surf boards
  1 surf instructor
There is a reasonable daily cost and you can prepay for the Surf School through Our Specialists before you leave home if you wish.

“Fiji’s waves are famous in the surfing community with breaks such as Cloudbreak hosting the Volcom surfing championship in previous years, where world champions such as Kelly Slater compete for the top prize.  Namotu Left is a great break for perfect novice surfers and families with keen young surfers.

Your Accommodation Options
Mango Bay offers 10 Beachfront Bures and 10 One or Two Bedroom Garden Bures as well as the 6/8 bed “ dormitory-style Jungle Bures.

Mango Bay self-rates at a 2½ star standard. We consider that rating to be somewhat conservative for the Beachfront and Garden Bures, but go to Mango Bay with that standard in mind and you should be agreeably surprised.

Although the accommodation is not air-conditioned, the Resort’s position on the south coast of Viti Levu facing the south-easterly lagoon breezes together with the high thatched roofs and open vaulted ceilings, the Mahogany louvered windows for flow-through ventilation and the electric fan when the breeze isn’t there render air-conditioning unnecessary. All Bures have ensuite bathrooms.

The décor and atmosphere of both Beachfront and Garden Bures provide an agreeable mixing of traditional Fijian and contemporary design.  Floors are timber, the roof is high-pitched and thatched in traditional Bure-style, the window and door joinery is natural timber and the light-coloured walls are the modern touch providing a brighter and more airy feeling than found in a totally traditional Fiji Bure.
