BLUE LAGOON BEACH RESORT
Our Resort Report

OUR Thoughts on Blue Lagoon Beach Resort, Nalova Bay, Nacula Island, Yasawa Islands, Fiji
This boutique resort is a little gem.  It’s location in the Northern Yasawa Group is as far from the mainland of Viti Levu that a fast ferry can reach and get back to Port Denarau in daylight hours year-round.  The 4½ hour ferry ride via the many island resorts it calls at is scenic enough but once you arrive at Blue Lagoon Resort you are totally impressed with the beautiful beach setting of the resort on its perfect tropical island.

With accommodation units plus two dormitories the resort is a good mid-size and caters equally well for singles, couples of all ages, honeymooners and families. There is a lovely laid-back atmosphere throughout the place and nothing is too regimented.  Meals are generally taken at long multi-share tables but for those wanting personal space there are smaller tables too. A table can be set up on the beach for those seeking privacy and romance, especially for a sunset dinner. The laid-back atmosphere extends right through to the Kids’ Club were programs are individually tailored for individual family needs and if there is something the carers feel the kids who are not in attendance that day may enjoy, they’ll come around offering other kids (and parents too - if parents want be involved) to participate.

Having the high quality dormitories adds to the overall feeling of the resort too, as single travellers who are not the partying kind of backpackers, enjoy the family friendly atmosphere and add another dimension and enjoyment to the many resort activities and the conversations over meals which all guests enjoy.

Being relaxed and active at the same time is a breeze at Blue Lagoon Resort.  The resort and the local village happily exist on the same island and an organised visit to Nacula Village, where all the local staff come from, is a terrific experience, especially on a Sunday when a church visit is included.  It pays to pack a pair of reasonable walking shoes for the hike up the hill behind the resort.  The walk can be a little steep in places and there is a little tropical bush to navigate through, but once you make the summit the views experienced are amazing.  A morning or evening beach walk or run is rewarding while Scuba Diving is another resort activity everyone can enjoy and beginners are welcome.  However, the highlight of a stay at Blue Lagoon Resort just has to be a visit to the famous Sawa-i-Lau cave – we won’t spoil the experience for you by giving too much away (except to mention that it does involve holding your breath for a few seconds on the way in and out), but urge you to “just do it” -  the experience cannot be had anywhere else in the South Pacific.

Compulsory Meal Plan
A compulsory daily meal plan will be charged and included in our package arrangements.

Your Accommodation Options
Blue Lagoon Beach Resort accommodation coves a wide range of options from 8 bed dormitories handily located in the gardens close to the central facility right through to spacious, superior-quality two-room Palm Villas right on the beach. The range of accommodation types and facilities on offer can be quite difficult to decipher, so, to try to ensure each prospective guest knows exactly what is on offer, we have split the range into 2 categories:
Non-air-conditioned
Air-conditioned accommodation.

Room Categories
Non-Air-Conditioned Accommodation

The 10 Bula Lodge Rooms are in a ribbon block handy to the dormitory buildings. Guest in both the Bula Lodge and the Dorm share the same communal bathroom/toilet facility block.  The small but comfortable Bula Lodge rooms are fan-cooled, have neither fridge nor Tea/coffee making facility and probably best suit couples or 2 friends seeking a cheaper accommodation type.  Each room has a small private deck out front and a view of the resort gardens.
Maximum Occupancy: 2 guests aged 18 years and over
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed which can be split into 2 Single Beds.
Additional Bedding: No additional bedding accommodated.

Bullet Garden Villas:
The 9 Garden Villas are great value for up to 4 guests.  While they are not air-conditioned, each one has good flow-through screened wooden louvre windows, a high peaked ceiling and a ceiling fan. Although Garden Villas have neither a fridge no tea/coffee facility, each sports a furnished, private veranda patio (day bed or bench seat) out front and out back, this resort’s superb signature bathroom with vanity and toilet opening out to a walled courtyard containing an open-air shower.  This style of bathroom is so right for this far-away island location.

Existing Bedding: 1 Queen Bed and 1 Single Bed.
Additional Bedding: A Single Rollaway Bed and (complimentary) baby cot may be added.

Air-Conditioned Accommodation

The two 8-bed co-ed dormitories are an exceptional accommodation choice for those seeking a good bed in a fresh, modern and airy room with the bonus of air-conditioning.  There are cheaper dormitory beds to be had in Fiji, which more often than not involve bunks, but these dormitories at Blue Lagoon Beach Resort not only offer an air-conditioned room but each bed is a standard Single Bed with an individual reading light. Towels, bed sheets etc., are all provided and rooms are serviced daily. Guests in dormitory rooms share the communal bathroom with guests in the Bula Lodge Rooms.

Located in private tropical gardens and twice the size of the (standard) Garden Villas, you will enjoy Air Conditioned comfort of your own private day beds, lounge area, and tea and coffee. There is a spacious open-air tropical bathroom. Perfect for couples and honeymooners, these rooms are also ideal for a family Fijian holiday for couples with a little one still using a cot.

Only a strip of sand with the odd coconut palm separates the Beachfront Villas from the sea.  Beachfront Villas are stand-alone buildings with one big open-plan space opening via double doors out to a spacious, private veranda and a day bed or relaxing seating.  Each Beachfront Villa has private beach access, thatched sun hut and beach loungers and a hammock slung between 2 coconut palms beside the beach.  Inside the timber plank floor compliments the high, peaked Fijian Bure-style ceiling and the modern, light painted walls and timber joinery brings it all together splendidly. The bathroom is a work of art with internal vanity and toilet opening out to a romantic courtyard shower.  Beachfront Villas are air-conditioned and naturally cooled by a ceiling fan and flow-through louvre winder ventilation.

The air-conditioned Deluxe Beachfront Villa is absolutely ideal not only for a couple seeking an air-conditioned beachfront location but also for a family with up to 2 children.  In addition to the very spacious main room with its combined living/sleeping, there is a second smaller room off the main room which has a set of built-in bunks which are very suitable for children. To facilitate air circulation, the room dividing wall does not reach the ceiling.
The Deluxe Beachfront Villa is only steps away from the water and has a big veranda out front and a fantastic sea view framed by the trunks of the mature coconut palms.  The veranda is furnished with a large day bed and a hammock and is an ideal place to while away the hours and catch the sunsets. Personal beach loungers are provided.
