OUR Thoughts The Black Pearl at Puaikura, Kavera, Rarotonga
What a difference the new owner has made to this property. We have known this place for years and watched on as it went through various phases. Well-built in the days when units were always a generous size, it has always had “good bones” and a beaut location. The standard of the property hasn’t always been completely to our liking, so we had not always previously included it in our portfolio, but during 2020, it has been upgraded, reimagined and reborn, so we are again completely confident in the product and pleased to offer The Black Pearl at Puaikura for your consideration for a holiday in Rarotonga.
The rooms are a delight with exactly the right blend of contemporary white and modern, Pacific colours. The brand new individual wall mural in each unit is tastefully done and definitely adds to the Pacificd flavour while the grounds, gardens and pool areas are all refreshed and lookinig great. With only 12 accommodation units the delightful pool area complete with spacious gazebo, is never crowded and ideal for families, as well as couples to mix and mingle.
Each unit has a well-equipped kitchen which is really handy for making breakfasts and lunches and also good enough for cooking the odd dinner as well. The covered patio on each unit is an ideal place to enjoy meals and snacks.
One of Rarotonga’s marine reserve beaches is only steps away across the road and although not actually reserved exclusively for The Black Pearl guests, you would be forgiven for thinking it was for you exclusively, as it’s rare to ever encounter anyone else on this great beach. The marine reserve is a wonderful place for snorkelling and in the whale migration season, it’s not uncommon to see whales passing by outside the reef.
This is the “sunset side” of Rarotonga and the sunsets can be amazing. Right next door there is a small Rarotongan-style suberban supermarket/shopping centre, so grab a snack and a cold beer and head over to the beach to catch the sunset. At The Black Pearl, snorkelling gear, beach towels and reef shoes are available for guests to use and filtered water is available for drinking, but best of all, the owner/managers and her team are always happy to assist with friendly suggestions for sightseeing, great places to eat and information on local events.

Your Accommodation Options
The 12 accommodation units at The Black Pearl at Puaikura are in ground floor “ribbon blocks” arranged alongside the pool or facing inward towards the gardens. The lazy ceiling fan and the vaulted ceilings negate the need for air-conditioning and give the units an enhanced feeling of space. Light floods in from the sliding patio doors. All units have a small kitchen comprising a cook top, microwave oven and a fridge. The owners have deliberately not placed TVs in the units. However, there is a Vodafone wifi hotspot covering the entire property.
The managers have a limited number of fold-out single beds and port-a-cots which may be added to most rooms. These are subject to confirmation by Our Travel Specialists at the time of booking.

Garden Suites:
4 One Bedroom units with separate bedroom and separate living room.
Ensuite bathroom with shower. The furnished patio faces the tropical gardens.
Maximum Occupancy: 5 guests
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed in the bedroom and 2 Single Day Bed in the lounge.
Additional Bedding: The managers have a limited number of fold-out single beds and port-a-cots which may be added to most rooms, the availability of which are subject to confirmation by Our Travel Specialists at the time of booking.
Cabana Suites:
The 4 sizeable open-plan, studio-style Cabana Rooms have a furnished patio facing the pool.
Ensuite bathroom with shower.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 guests
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed
Additional Bedding: 1 Single Bed may be added for a 3rd adult.
The managers have a limited number of port-a-cots which may be added to most rooms, the availability of which are subject to confirmation by Our Travel Specialists at the time of booking.
Poolside Suites:
4 One Bedroom units with separate bedroom and a separate living room. The Poolside Suites are a little bigger than the Garden Suites and have vaulted ceilings as well as a covered patio facing towards the pool. One has a gated patio deck to give toddlers more security for the unfenced pool

Maximum Occupancy: 5 guests
Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed in the bedroom and 2 Single Beds in the lounge.

Getting to and from The Black Pearl at Puaikura
We will include return airport transfers as appropriate/agreed in package arrangements.
The Round Island Bus stops right outside The Black Pearl on both clockwise and counter clockwise routes.
