Our Resort Report

OUR Thoughts on Manuia Beach Resort, Arorangi, Rarotonga.
Way back, even before jet aeroplanes started bringing tourists to Rarotonga, there were very few places to stay on this beautiful island and most visitor accommodation was clustered around the town and not at the beaches.  With a huge number of beach sites to choose from, one of the first beachfront resorts to be built (then known as the Arorangi Beach Hotel) was the forerunner of what is today’s Manuia Beach Resort.  You wouldn’t recognise much of the original hotel today, but at the time that hotel was built, the location was considered one of the best on the island and so it remains today.

There is a fine sandy beach fronting a natural coral lagoon with the sea reef close enough for guests to hear the sounds of the ocean breaking on the reef and to clearly see the passing whales during the whale migration season.  The sunsets over the reef are nothing short of spectacular. The Resort’s nice big beach-front terrace which contains the horizon swimming pool, lovely wooden decks and the well-named “On The Beach” Restaurant & Bar with its sand floor, melds almost seamlessly with the beach. This area is an idyllic setting for a wedding. Manuia Beach Resort’s 24 accommodation units are all located on slightly raised land approximately 2 metres above the beach terrace.

All guests at Manuia Beach receive the following inclusions in their room rate:
● Daily tropical buffet breakfast buffet.
● Free weekly cultural activities including:
Monday – Scuba Dive try-out in resort pool
    Tuesday – Rarotonga Mystery Tour
    Wednesday - Management cocktails
    Thursday - Pearl talk
    Friday - Ukulele lessons
    Saturday – Market drop-off
    Sunday – Church drop-off.
● Free use of snorkelling gear and kayaks.

The OTB (On the Beach) Restaurant & Bar and the beach terrace is the focal point of this resort.  The Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and an optional half board and a full board meal plan is available for pre-purchase.   Lunch may be enjoyed in the restaurant or taken outside to the pool deck.  At the beat of the Cook Islands drum, guests gather for Manuia Beach’s famous Happy Hour.

New Chef at Manuia Beach “On The Beach” Restaurant
Austrian chef Phillip Nordt runs the Restaurant in partnership with the Hotel and offers a daily a la carte menu as well as a daily 3-course special dinner which changes daily.  The restaurant also offers special evenings which include a Friday 5-course seafood degustation and a Sunday charcoal BBQ grill. The sand-floor restaurant overlooking the lagoon and reef offers a fantastic atmosphere and the food is excellent.

Manuia Beach Resort is all about relaxation and recharging.  Their policy of not catering for guests under the age of 16 years ensures a certain level of peace and tranquillity.  Kayak and snorkelling gear is provided for guests to explore the lagoon (beach towels provided) and there is a book exchange library.  For those guests wanting to keep up to date with world affairs there is a TV lounge on site.  For those people seeking total relaxation, once you arrive and settle in at Manuia Beach Resort you quickly get the feeling that you really don’t need to leave the property for any reason at all unless it’s for a long walk along the beach at sunrise. However, Rarotonga is known as a place where guests can explore, dine and play at any number of nearby attractions.  For guests wishing to explore a little, in the vicinity of Manuia Beach Resort you will find the historic palace of Tinomana Ariki (Paramount Chief of Arorangi), a fine example of an historic limestone church, walking tracks to Raemaru (Table top flat mountain with a sacred marae at its base) as well as Rarotonga “Hospital Hill” for fantastic views of the coast and hinterland.

Manuia Beach Resort completed a full room refurbishment as at May 2013 and now rates as a 4 Star Boutique Resort. Three years ago, the owners introduced a new "VIP" grade in 1 Beachfront Suite and 1 Garden Suite which has been well received by VIP guests and which, apart from the normal list of inclusions at Manuia Beach, adds extra services for VIP guests to enjoy:

What Manuia Beach Resort Say About Themselves
“On the sheltered, sunset coast of Rarotonga, Manuia Beach Resort is just 10 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes from the golf course, and only 15 minutes from the main town of Avarua. Wander down our hibiscus clad driveway and you have some of Rarotonga's best restaurants within walking distance of the resort.

Sparkling blue water, an amazing white sand beach and tropical gardens frame our small and intimate 4 star boutique resort. Sand paths separate just 24 Polynesian style garden or beachfront suites. All suites underwent a full refurbishment completed in May 2013 and each one features bright and spacious Polynesian inspired decor with modern amenities including air conditioning and daily maid service.

Overlooking the fresh water infinity pool, our famous sand floor “OTB (On the Beach) Restaurant and Bar” - serves a delectable mix of South Pacific cuisine in a thatched-hut setting. Weekly entertainment includes: Daily happy hour from 4 – 6pm, Wednesday and Saturday night - live music, and Sunday night our famous BBQ buffet with live island music.

The historic palace of Tinomana Ariki (Paramount Chief of Arorangi), a fine example of one of our historic limestone churches, is a must to visit and the nearby walking tracks to Raemaru (Table top flat mountain with a scared marae at its base) or Rarotonga hospital hill are well worth the effort, with fantastic views as your reward when you reach the top.

With a tranquil and romantic atmosphere and friendly staff, we provide guests with a life-changing experience. In the spirit of maintaining Manuia Beach Resorts charm as a  seclusion.. escape.. romance' resort, children under 16 years are not permitted to stay.

Your Polynesian Paradise at Manuia Beach Resort, Cook Islands awaits you…”

Every suite is air-conditioned as well as having flow-through ventilation. All suites in all categories are the same size.

In October 2018, Manuia Beach Resort added a further dimension in their accommodation offering - a 2 Bedroom/2 Bathroom Apartment which comprises 2 ensuite bedrooms, a separate lounge, full kitchen and private BBQ.
