AUGUST 2015
Fakalofa lahi atu Emily,
The Scenic Matavai Resort was lovely with very friendly staff. Our room was clean and spacious and we sighted whales almost everyday either from our room or the wide decks surrounding the restaurant and pool area. The restaurant appears to have some difficulty in planning for sufficient supplies to last them until the next supply ship as they were running out of basic non perishable goods.
The diving and whale watching trips at Niue Dive (next door to the resort) were very well organised with good attention to safety, both for the people and the whales. The island orientation tour with Toamana Tours, which we booked through Niue Dive, was a great way to get a feel for the island as well as hearing some of the history and culture from a Niuean guide.
It’s important to be aware that in July/August it is winter in Niue with day temperatures in the 20-25 degree range with some rain so not exactly tropical but still pleasant.
