Hi Liz,
Just a quick email to let you know we had a wonderful time at Sandy Beach. It’s a lovely spot.
The Scenic Hotel is fine for an overnight stop too.
Contrary to what most travel guides say about Tonga, right up until the last day everything ran like clockwork and pretty much to the minute.
We were meant to get the 8.45am flight back to Tongatapu, but the small plane broke down (another couple who came across to Ha’apai on it a day or so before had said it was getting really hard to start……), so we were put on the DC3 for the return trip in the afternoon.
The upside was that we got to sleep in and an extra snorkel, not to mention a 2nd flight in a DC3. The downside was that we only got 2 ½ hours with the tour guide we had organised for the day, but it doesn’t matter, because we are definitely going back.
Funnily enough everything seemed more laid back than Rarotonga or Niue, but ran better, go figure!
