TONGAN BEACH RESORT Utungaki Island, Vava’u, Tonga
“Your Resort here in Vava'u - The Kingdom of Tonga
This superb boutique island resort offers the best of both worlds - the isolation of a real Pacific island, with top resort facilities that includes a classy restaurant and a friendly bar plus the convenience of being linked to the mainland by a causeway.
Our staff are keen to help make this become a never-to-be-forgotten event for you that is much more than just a holiday. With only 12 rooms, the service is personal and the atmosphere is warm, friendly and laid back so there is no rushing to claim a deck chair before breakfast!
At The Tongan, we can offer multi-layered activities and we are able to cater for honeymooners, couples, families, yachties, boaties, fishermen, divers and snorkelers plus those who simply wish to shed their stressful city and work dominated lifestyle to revel in the peace and natural beauty of the true Pacific where time is irrelevant. As they say - "the land where time stands still".
It is our mission to provide genuine island lifestyle during the day with the creature comforts of home at night. The individually designed rooms have each been designed around a sea theme with sea motifs defining each room.
Vava’u is truly Natures Aquatic Adventure land and The Tongan Beach Resort is located at the crossroads of everyday Vava’u life afloat. Each of the water-based activity operators pass our doorstep (actually our wharf) everyday. Choose from an array of activities including diving, snorkelling, kayaking tours, kite surfing, big game sport fishing, sailing (overnight or day trips), or a more leisurely island tour aboard a water taxi. Powered Kayak tours are available from the “Old Harbour”, these jet boat powered kayaks are great fun and, whilst you drive your own for the tour, a guide takes you to hidden island gems located to the eastern side of Vava’u.
If your desire is to stay at the resort for the day we offer a selection of kayaks (single and double), snorkelling equipment and bicycles for guest use – free of charge. Or, just lie back and enjoy the resort sun loungers dotted along the water’s edge.
If something by land takes your fancy, then there is lots to see around the main island of Vava’u, Land tours around the island of Vava’u take approximately four hours and include a visit to a plantation, a vanilla farm, the world class “Ene’io Botanical gardens”, local villages plus the Catholic Basilica and local market in Neiafu.
The Tongan Beach Resort - Where you can do it all – or nothing at all.”
Our Thoughts on Tongan Beach Resort Vava’u We have known the Tongan Beach Resort for many years. On our more recent inspections, we have been very pleased with the changes and improvements the new owners have made since they took over in May 2010. We have always found there to be a good feeling at this little resort, but now there is a new buzz as the new owners improve the services and facilities while retaining the original “beach holiday” feel of the place.
All of the resorts we offer in Vava’u are unique and The Tongan Beach Resort is no exception. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that while it is located on a beautiful quiet tropical island surrounded by white sand, waving coconut palms etc, it is linked to the mainland by a causeway which makes it possible to “go into town” any time you choose by hiring a taxi. Another unique feature is that there is always something of interest happening on the water nearby as boats pass by (and call in too) taking people diving, fishing, whale watching, sightseeing and so on. International yachts are also seen passing through to Neiafu. Utungaki Village is close by and the daily activities of village life are a welcome addition to the experience of Tonga you get when staying at Tongan Beach Resort.
The restaurant at The Tongan Beach Resort is well-known for its high quality food and service. However, those guests who like the idea of having the option of sampling the often lively cafes and bars in Neiafu as an alternative are certainly able to do that while staying here. A Taxi ride to town takes around 15 minutes and costs around $20 each way. Mind you, we know of many instances when guests never leave the property for meals, simply because the food and service is so good right there! We are always impressed with the optional locations for dinners which may be at tables set up under the trees or on the beach, on the restaurant deck or inside the restaurant of course. The bar is a lovely rustic round half-open-sided Tongan-style structure with lounge chairs on the wooden floor on two sides while a nice big table and chairs are set up on the central sand floor – it’s located virtually on the beach and all very relaxing.
Your Accommodation Options There are 2 types of accommodation at Tongan Beach Resort; Beachfront Double Rooms and Beachfront family Rooms – 12 rooms in all. All are absolute beachfront and each one features excellent insect-screened windows to aid ventilation and ceiling fans, modern private ensuite bathrooms with hot and cold shower, fridge, iron and ironing board, hair drier and tea/coffee making facilities. Every room has a private outside deck area facing the beach.
At present not all rooms are air-conditioned although the plan is to have air-conditioning in all rooms as soon as possible. Our experience of staying at Tongan Beach Resort is that air-conditioning is hardly ever required even in the hottest summer months of January/February.
