SANDY BEACH RESORT
Foa Island, Ha’apai, Tonga

“It took us two years to build this little vacation paradise.

We constructed 12 Bungalows (Fales) right on the beach, a main building with Bar & Restaurant and created ways to use the crystal-clear waters and the surrounding jungle for various activities. We have 12 Fales, for a maximum of 24 Guests, all with a direct view towards the crystal clear South Pacific Ocean.

Solidly built in European style, tiled, with approx.30qm living space each; all with constant 24-hour-electric-power-supply (220V), each fale has a spacious bathroom with toilet, washbasin and solar heated, high-pressure shower. Rattan-furniture, ceiling fan, coffee-and tea making facility, refrigerator, built-in wardrobe, radio-alarm clock and a choice of king-size or twin beds completes the picture.

Each Fale is provided with a private and furnished terrace, two sun-chairs to be used at the beach as well as extra beach towels.

For the restaurant, lobster and fish are locally caught daily. Meat and other foodstuffs are mainly imported.

Our first class dinners are accompanied by beautiful wines from New Zealand and Australia.

Of course there´s always cold beer, juices, soft drinks and fresh, chilled coconuts. The Bar and Restaurant are for the use of houseguests only”.

Our Thoughts on Sandy Beach Resort Ha’apai
Sandy Beach Resort is one of only two resort properties we offer in the Ha’apai Group in Tonga – the other being Matafonua Lodge which is located close by. The two properties complement each other very well. 

Sandy Beach Resort is located on the north-western point of Fo’a Island just 10 km north of Ha’apai’s airport on a beautiful white-sand beach facing spectacular sunsets. The resort comprises 12 fales which are all similar in size and layout, each one set a few footsteps back from the beach amongst the palm trees and each one with a lovely big covered veranda with sea views. The main resort building, which houses the restaurant and bar and the hotel Reception, is at the southern end of the property and all the fales spread north along the beach from there.

The owners, who are a father and son team originally from Germany, are the resort hosts and a more congenial couple of fellows you would be hard-pressed to find anywhere! They personally built the resort which is a credit to them.

There is an excellent restaurant at Sandy Beach which opens for breakfast and dinner – the food quality is exceptionally good for such a remote location. Guests are welcome to take extra food from breakfast back to their fales for lunch if they wish (every fale has a fridge). Like the fales, the restaurant features a modern take on the traditional Tongan Fale rounded ceiling and there is a very special wooden carving of a humpback whale swinging from the restaurant ceiling.

Sandy Beach Resort provides complimentary use of snorkel/masks, bicycles, kayaks, canoe as well as guided bush-and-reef walks, guided kayak tours to nearby Islands, a shuttle to Pangai for Sunday church service and sightseeing, Tongan Culture Show (dependent on availability of the villagers), English and German library, private laundry, unlimited supply of coffee, tea, milk, sugar and safe drinking water in rooms and free Wifi internet in every Fale.

At a small additional cost, Sandy Beach Resort arranges Scuba Diving, Day Trips by boat to other Islands, horseback riding (guided, with the horses from nearby Village) and Whale Watch and Swim-with-the-Whales trips when the whales are nearby from July to October.

Your Accommodation Options
All 12 Fales face the ocean. Each has a good-sized covered veranda which you will be where you will spend a great deal of your time if you are here for relaxation. A cool drink and pre-dinner snack go well while lounging on the veranda and taking in the sunset views. Fales are modern, spacious and airy. Each has an ensuite bathroom. The windows are all insect-screened and ceiling fan aids the natural cooling from the sea breezes. There is free Wifi access in each Fale.

Getting To and From Sandy Beach Resort Ha’apai
Our Specialists will organise the domestic airline flights between Tongatapu or Vava’u and Ha’apai and the return airport transfers to and from Sandy Beach Resort Ha’apai.

Kids’ Policy
The resort is not really designed for child-ren aged under 14 years and the acceptance of bookings which include children aged under 14 years is on request only.

Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be made in writing.
 If cancellations are effected within 2 to 4 weeks of scheduled arrival, a cancellation fee equal to two night's accommodation will be levied.
 If cancellations are effected within 14 days of scheduled arrival including no shows, a cancellation fee equal to 100% of total accommodation will be levied.
