Our Thoughts on Tamanu Beach
Until you’ve actually visited Tamanu it can take quite an effort to fully understand the main attributes of this beaut little property on Aitutaki. Tamanu Beach is located on the western side of Aitutaki’s main island, approximately half way between the airport and the island administration centre. On this side of the island, the beaches are the legendary tropical white sand beaches that seem to go on for kilometres in both directions and the sunsets are gorgeous. The beach runs down to a clear, shallow lagoon which is great for snorkelling and the lagoon ends at Aitutaki’s fringing reef with the open ocean beyond.
Tamanu Beach is a little unusual in that it offers two distinct accommodation zones. The original area, which was opened in 2001, was built with people in mind who are looking for a total beach escape; that is, the bungalows have no TV, DVD, radio etc but they are provided with kitchens so guests have the option to self-cater for meals. The 12 bungalows in this area are all studio (one open-plan living space) units which are set in a herring-bone pattern, 6 on one side and five on the other side of the central pathway running back from the beach. There is one studio located right on the beach frontage and a very pleasant horizon swimming pool almost on the beach. More recently, another small beach resort (originally known as Manea Beach) which is separated from the original by around 200 metres of beachfront land and which is now amalgamated with Tamanu Beach adds 10 units, each with a separate bedroom and lounge These 1 Bedroom units do have TV etc but do not offer the self-catering facility of the original units. A lovely new restaurant has been built on the land between the 2 accommodation blocks and this makes the Tamanu Beach we see today. The Tamanu Beach Reception, a bar and lounge plus an additional small swimming pool complete the picture. The Tamanu Beach Restaurant faces the lagoon and the sunsets and is a stunning spot for evening cocktails and a marvellous venue for an Aitutaki Wedding.
No matter which accommodation type you choose, every guest enjoys the complimentary tropical breakfasts and use of hammocks, sun-loungers, kayaks and snorkel gear provided.
We like the relaxed beach-holiday atmosphere throughout Tamanu Beach, the good medium standard of accommodation, the very nice restaurant as well as the excellent local cultural night each Thursday and the Sunset BBQ on Sundays, both of which are not to be missed.

 Studio Garden Bungalows and the Studio Beachfront Bungalow
These, the original accommodation units at Tamanu Beach, are fully self-contained with modern kitchen facilities such as full-size fridge/freezer, microwave, gas cooker and all the cutlery and crockery you need for a self catering vacation. All Studios are air conditioned and feature high, sloping ceilings. The bungalow closest to the horizon pool and beach-frontage is designated a Beachfront Bungalow. The bungalows further back from the beach are designated Garden Bungalows. Each bungalow is stepped back from its neighbour providing privacy to guests sitting on their verandas. Guests in the Garden Bungalows get a filtered view of the lagoon immediately they step off their spacious veranda patios and start heading the short distance towards the beach.

These very spacious air-conditioned bungalows with their high open cathedral ceilings offer a bedroom and a separate lounge. There is also a nice big veranda patio. The 3 Beachfront Bungalows are located on the front of the resort and sitting on the veranda, guests almost feel that they are sitting right on the beach. The Lagoon Bungalows surround the swimming pool and guests enjoy filtered lagoon views from the veranda.

Getting to and from Tamanu Beach
A domestic flight from Rarotonga to Aitutaki is required.
We will provide a vehicle arrival/departure transfer from/to Aitutaki Airport to Tamanu Beach.

The hotel will make every effort to ensure your rooms are available at your time of check-in; however, the Hotel standard times and rates are as follows:

Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be made in writing.
If cancellations are effected between 30 and 15 days of scheduled arrival, a cancellation fee equal to one night’s accommodation will be levied.
If cancellations are effected between 14 and 8 days of scheduled arrival, a cancellation fee equal to two night’s accommodation will be levied.
If cancellations are effected within 7 days of scheduled arrival including no shows, a cancellation fee equal to 100% of total stay will be levied.
